Kent Grammer School Appeal date in - what to expect

Posting on behalf of a friend - she has the date through for her appeal hearing with regards to her DD attending HighWorth Grammer School in AShford Kent.

She wants to know what questions to expect, what actually happens etc etc. She is appealing on the grounds that her DD failed the Kent test by a few marks on aggreagate, that they moved house into kent and the disruption was much more than they expected and that she is summer born. All non-techncial reasons for appeal I know!

For a non-qualification appeal she needs to demonstrate that her dd is of grammar school standard. I know several people who have had successful non-qual appeals. The common factor in their appeals has been that their primary school has been happy to provide evidence that the child is a suitable candidate, ie, that they expect the child to get level 5/6 in SATs.

I don't think the disruption of a move is likely to carry much weight, and your friend should also be aware that the Kent Test marks are adjusted for age (this is normally only a few marks on each paper, but certainly means that it's not a very strong argument).

There is another factor in successful appeals, which won't affect your friend's case, but could affect the outcome. A non-qualification appeal has a much higher chance of success if the school has spaces left.
