Gordon's school, Surrey

We are thinking of moving to an area with better high schools. Various friends having have mentioned gordon's, but from what i understand it is very difficult to get into. From what i have heard you practically need to live on the school's doorstep. Also do you have to have a connection to the armed forces? Please can anyone give me any information about about the school and admissions? thank you in advance!

You don't have to have a connection with the armed forces but you do need to live on the doorstep.

(Double check though as my info is from a couple of years ago)

Much easier to get into if you want to board.

My friend has just put her two girls through the school and has been very pleased with it. No army connection, and they live close-ish but both work full time, so the boarding worked really well.

Thank you for your comments. I would prefer that my son is a day boarder, but understand that it may be harder to get admission.

The admissions info is on their website. If you live with in about 500 metres (exact figures are published), you will get in as a day pupil.

Fees still payable, even as a day pupil, so it might be worth considering a an actual private school, which seem to get much better results.

We tried gordons they on my have 8/10 boarding places a year which mostly go to forces kids but you could get lucky though the boarding fees are quite high IMO £4.5k per term for just the boarding element and I don't think there's much chance of a bursary.

I was wondering whether someone could tell me whether St George's Weybridge is more or less academic than the Gordon School in Woking.

I have visited the Gordon School and it seems to be pretty academic but I was wondering whether St George's Weybridge would be better suited to my son who is strong in maths but has mild dyslexia. He has been offered a bed at the Gordon School for boarding.

What are your views of both schools in terms of pastoral care, provision for mild dyslexia and academics/results?
