I'm sorry if this isn't PC to ask, but we're in the catchment for the Compton in North Finchley, and I'd like to know that my child isn't going to be the only Jewish kid in the school. Does anyone know if there are other Jewish kids at the school?

If this is your local school and you have a kid coming up to secondary, surely you must know people whose kids go there? Arrange a visit of the school, it will give you a good idea anyway.

I'm interested to know what happened in the end in sending your Jewish child to Compton School. I am in the exact same position as you were, my ex doesn't want us to send our child to Compton because she is worried that the school isn't welcoming to Jewish kids.

I visited the school and really like it, im looking for other Jewish families to find out if their children attended Compton and how their experience was...

May i ask what makes you think the school isn't welcoming to Jewish kids? Where did you hear that from?
I know of the school, i went to the sixth form down the road from the school many years ago (Woodhouse college) and many Compton kids used to go to Woodhouse because the school didn't have a sixth form. I always thought Compton was a good school. It's very diverse as well.

Isn't Archer Academy close by and supposed to be good as well?

Apparently a number of Israeli families that had kids at this school had to pull them out due to problems with anti-semitism from other children and the school's slack response in dealing with it.

Yeah its a good school and diverse but that doesn't mutually exclude anti-semitism which is a rot that can set in anywhere.

Archer is a good school, its one of our other choices. But we're nearer Compton and therefore its worth us prioritising it....

Really? That's a shame. I am surprised because like i said in my previous post, I went to school with a lot of Compton students and they were nice enough. The school is very diverse with students of all races, so I would think that it is a welcoming school. Kids of any race can be unpleasant and sadly racist though, and it takes a just a couple to put a stain on an entire group of people. I am surprised though that the teachers didn't take it seriously since pastoral care is supposed to be be one of the main strengths of the school judging by previous posts about the school on this website and Ofsted reports.

Yeah totally agree, it’s definitely an awesome school. I enjoyed our visit, heard the head teacher speak. Was genuinely impressed plus noticed even positive connections to Jewish culture at the school. This is why I want to see whether another Jewish family had any experience of it…

I think Archer Academy has a very large Jewish intake especially with one of the postcode it draws it's catchment from being in Golders Green I think? Maybe the school will be better for you if having more Jewish students is important to you?

I think Compton is more diverse than Archer though in terms students from different economic and racial backgrounds. Archer seems to have a very middle class intake similar to Fortismere i think.

Having more Jewish students is not as important than my child feeling welcome as a Jew. That’s the main point.
