New thread for those of us starting the exams.

Keep calm everyone.

That was me HSM - dh had the day off today so gave me the opportunity to let him know that this is the first day of 5 weeks of exams Shock (if you include the half-term week of revision) I only realised myself recently when I copied a list of dd's exams onto a calender for the kitchen - So, in theory, we can all know what to expect!

JugglingFromHereToThere · 11/05/2015 16:12

Thanks Squirrel Thanks

GloriaSmud · 11/05/2015 16:19

I've had DD1's thoughts on this mornings RS exam. She said at first that she didn't think she'd done very well but later said that she'd had a good go at all of the questions, apart from one as she couldn't remember what 'vocation' meant.
So 1 exam down, 19 to go ~ Biology tomorrow afternoon.

canny1234 · 11/05/2015 16:22

Tk Maxx online is good for Prom dresses. We got dd a full length Coast one from there for around £36 .

HSMMaCM · 11/05/2015 16:40

Gloria DD got stuck on the vocation question too. Her RS teacher said for a religious person, it's their spiritual calling, but even she had to think for a while.

HSMMaCM ~ DD got the meaning of the word afterwards from her friend. Perhaps it's going to be one of those questions which a few couldn't answer because they didn't know or had forgotten what the word meant!

Littleham · 11/05/2015 17:09

DD3 said that RS (Edexel) went 'surprisingly well'. One down, goodness knows how many to go.

mummytime · 11/05/2015 17:32

DD is fed up with Sociology - they'd totally changed the structure of the paper which threw her, and she thinks she messed up - although she knew the stuff (even though they asked questions about things that didn't seem to be in the syllabus). She's comforted that Student Room is moaning about the same issues.

auntpetunia · 11/05/2015 17:51

Well today wasn't too bad for either of us, thanks for all the good wishes earlier in The thread, RS was apparently a piece of !!!!!, god mum don't stress. Tomorrow he's got biology PM but as that's only core he's currently killing klingons. . After tomorrow it's it wed and chemistry Thursday. No study leave here just normal school if not doing an exam which is great and they still have their revision sessions after school.

rubyshoes3 · 11/05/2015 17:52

Canny1234 no one is ever to big for hot chocolate and squirty cream. Even though he is more relaxed now he said his RS and Sociology papers get OK. He is revising again now even though I told him to sleep for a while.
His got no exam tomorrow but Ds2 has got his Biology paper tomorrow but he is more chilled about it.

BackforGood · 11/05/2015 18:02

sparkling - we got ds's suit from Matalan when he was in Yr11 - best price we found, and I was glad we hadn't spent ££ as he'd outgrown it about 6 weeks later.

RufusTheReindeer · 11/05/2015 18:17

Ds1 came home quite happy, the are only 9 children doing the exam, he spoke to four of them before he left

What was worrying him slightly was that out of the four, 2 went for question A, 2 went for question B and only he went for question C

He's now worried about his biology exam tomorrow, but he had a revision class today which he said was very helpful, he is revising now and has another revision lesson tomorrow so fingers crossed

See you tomorrow!

CocoaBeans · 11/05/2015 18:27

Marking my place as DD has two biology exams tomorrow and two chemistry exams on Thursday.

TheWordFactory · 11/05/2015 18:34

DS has decided he has done more biology than any human need ever do (this may not necessarily be true).

He's baking Nigella's dense chocolate loaf. He made brownies yesterday. I'm seeing a theme...

Sparklingbrook · 11/05/2015 18:39

It's Biology mind maps ahoy here. All blu tacked everywhere. Grin Vair pretty they are too.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 11/05/2015 18:47

Mmm, chocolate's always good word - we're sharing some Lindt balls that I had to pick up in Co-op just now because they were only 2.50.
I'm telling dd and ds they are a reward for first day of exams which justifies them right? Confused It did give me a chance to ask ds what he has tomorrow ... English apparently. "Oh, Eng Lang or Lit?" "I don't know" "Well, do you have to have read any books for it?" "No - it's comprehension" Finally got there! (Y8 BTW)
That hot choc with squirty cream sounds good too. Def getting some of that in Smile Choc is the answer ... goes well with Wine too!

Littleham · 11/05/2015 18:49

My dd tells me she is a Kinesthetic learner. This seems to involve lots of movement, pacing and mess.

Quote - They might pace while on the phone or take breaks from studying to get up and move around. Some may seem fidgety, having a hard time sitting still in class. Yep - this fits.

Sparklingbrook · 11/05/2015 18:50

DS2 is in Year 8 and has exams after Whitsun. They have found asbestos at the school recently and the Year groups have been taking it in turns to have the day off as classrooms have been closed. Tomorrow is DS2's day-DS1 is not happy.

LotusLight · 11/05/2015 19:03

One my mind is playing foot ball outside and I also played the piano to his GCSE music piece which is being done at 8am tomorrow before a 9am GCSE (French) with biology all afternoon so going to be quite a busy day. I am not sure how many people are at their best for brass instruments at 8am.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 11/05/2015 19:05

It is a ridiculous amount of exams though; DD has 16 for 9 GCSEs, (did two GCSEs last year). Nearly all my O Levels were single exam.

SoupDragon · 11/05/2015 19:07

I thought mine were mostly 2 papers.

Sparklingbrook · 11/05/2015 19:13

I can't even remember. Blush

bigTillyMint · 11/05/2015 19:18

I seem to remember 2 1/2 and 3 hour long O'level exams, although that might have just been how it felt!

DD is back and grumpy. Said Citizenship exam was shit, (but that's nothing new) - some distraction with another pupil going on - and is now saying she's going to flop French and Biology. Ah well, she hadn't moaned that much up until now!

Sparklingbrook · 11/05/2015 19:20

I remember a few exams were a proper written paper and a multiple guess choice one i think.

bigTillyMint · 11/05/2015 19:21

Oh yes, multi-guess. I always liked them. A bit like Who Wants to be a MillionaireGrin
