Hope you make it home today, Woolly, and that all is well. How scary!

HSMMaCM · 17/05/2015 11:49

Is it bad that I don't know all the English lit texts DD is studying ? I do care, but she isn't interested in talking about it.

OP posts:
Twirlwirlywoo · 17/05/2015 11:57

My DD has not enjoyed English Lit very much at all and does not talk much about it - except to moan.

She did eventually get to grips with TKAMB and tbh I can sympathise as I did the same book for my GCSE back in 1988 and didnt enjoy it much.

I think one other text was A Christmas Carol. Not sure about the other either, pretty much for the same reasons as you HSMMaCM.

Am hoping DD will call again today sometime but when she called yesterday I did sense she wasn't looking forward to this exam much!

Woollyback I sincerely hope you get some answers today so at least you know what is going on. Thinking of you xx

auntpetunia · 17/05/2015 11:57

Oh Woolley hope you get home today lumbar punctures aren't nice at all. Good on the Dr for talking to her about To Kill.

Ds currently lounging on sofa watching some marvel comic thing and I'm nursing a hangover in the kitchen where the coffee lives, I mentioned revision before and he just rolled his eyes and said I've read the book like twice yesterday and all my notes, I'll do some more in a bit as well as some geography for Tuesday. I'm in no state to argue so am leaving him to it.

However I'm dead jealous that Gloria's dd gets to study Blood Brothers one of my all time favourite plays. I saw it first time out in 1985 is at Liverpool Playhouse before it went the West End, wish ds was doing that

Littleham · 17/05/2015 12:20

DD's other text is An Inspector Calls.

So it is English tomorrow and guess what she is revising? Physics. All righty. Confused

SugarPlumTree · 17/05/2015 13:07

Much the same here HSM. She claims it is Mice and Men plus short stories (which I am still none to wiser) tomorrow then poetry later this week. We're going to watch the Mice and Men later after I've packed for DS to go tomorrow on residential. However instead of doing that I am on MN..

SoupDragon · 17/05/2015 13:12

DS is doing Of Mice and Men and Romeo and Juliet. Only one English Lit paper so he will be done with them tomorrow. He has not enjoyed it!

bigTillyMint · 17/05/2015 13:31

Littleham, same here (and same texts), despite her needing to get an A in Eng Lit and Physics doesn't matter at all for A'level choices! TBF, she did do Eng Lit yesterday and wiil do some this evening and the P3 session is on at school today.
I don't think DD gets to take texts in as she was talking about learning quotes, but she is doing IGCSEConfused

SugarPlum, LOL at your DD giving you tulips to eat. Mine definitely wouldn't know a growing leek if she saw one!

AuntP, I'm also feeling a bit rough (well just tired really, I did pace myselfWink) after a loooonnnnngggggg wedding yesterday - 12 hours really! I think I will be snoozing in a bit.

TheWoollybacksWife · 17/05/2015 14:04

We're home! Need to go back for more appointments next week but I can sleep in my own bed tonight.

DD is upstairs doing a bit of revision.

Sorry for derailing the thread but thanks for all the support

canny1234 · 17/05/2015 14:18

Glad you're home Woolley.Gosh, your dd must be very keen to get back to work after the stress and strain of the last couple of days.Did the doctors find out the cause of the high pressure?

auntpetunia · 17/05/2015 14:20

Woolley that's brilliant news, hope the news from the hospital is good. Well done to DD for revising as soon as she's home.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 17/05/2015 14:22

It's a support thread Woolly - whatever's needed Smile
So glad you're both back home Thanks

bigTillyMint · 17/05/2015 14:34

Woolly, that's great newsCakeWine Go your DD - straight back to revision!

Horsemad · 17/05/2015 15:07

Well Done to your DD Woolly and to you as well. That must have been so worrying for you.
The Dr talking to her about TKaMB sounds brilliant. A big Yaaaay for our NHS. Smile

SugarPlumTree · 17/05/2015 15:27

Great news Woolly SmileWine .Fingers crossed for you both for next week's appointments. What a star that she's gone through all that and still revises.

Gosh BTM, 12 hours, I would have fallen asleep!

TranquilityofSolitude · 17/05/2015 15:29

So pleased to hear you're home, Woolly. I'm impressed about the revision, too.

DD is revising English Lit at the moment. She's doing Of Mice & Men and An Inspector Calls. There was some discussion about using Physics revision as light relief, although Physics is usually her least favourite subject, so Eng Lit revision must be dire!

OddBoots · 17/05/2015 18:55

Glad she is home Woolie.

DS has been doing eng lit revision, I suspect he would also be distracting himself with physics if he could be he took it last year.

He is out in the garden at the moment doing some archery practice with his music on (but not too loud).

TheWordFactory · 17/05/2015 19:21

Thoughts with you wool

Eng lit is weird here ; DDs best subject, DS worst Grin.

I've been trying to feign interest but have been rather hung over today ( black tie do last night = free bar and school dinner type food ie in edible ).

Plus I can't walk. Dancing in heels at 3am having drink 599 mojitos is a recipe for disaster.

funambulist · 17/05/2015 19:34

Woolley so glad your DD is doing better. I hope things continue to improve.

My DS has English Literature tomorrow. Texts are "Of Mice And Men" and "The Importance Of Being Earnest". He got a bit panicked yesterday about not being ready for the exam so I sat down with him, worked out what he felt he needed to do, how much time he had left to do it and drew up a revision timetable for the next 24 hours.

What's worrying me a bit is English is one of the subjects he wants to do for A level yet he seems to need to spend far more time revising for it than he does for, say, maths, which he isn't doing for A level but seems much more confident about.

I feel that his supposedly "best" subjects should be easiest to revise for and am wondering if we should have a chat about his A level choices once the GCSE exams are over.

bigTillyMint · 17/05/2015 20:58

TWF, that sounds like a good night!

fun, I did TIOBE 34 years ago! I don't suppose much has changed about it since thenGrin

DD is panicking because she has not done fancy mind-maps for 3 of the characters in AIC in different colours, so she is doing that nowConfused

CoffeeBeanie · 17/05/2015 21:01

Wow, Woolly, she's a tough cookie.

How come the different exam boards do the same set texts on different days? DD has OMAM and Crucibles tomorrow, then Pride & Prejudice and Romeo & Juliet on Friday.
Other boards do R&J tomorrow?
I hope DD got her dates right.

HSMMaCM · 17/05/2015 21:28

DD has suddenly realised her GCSEs have started last week and has gone into revision overdrive and looks like she might panic tomorrow.

OP posts:
ErrolTheDragon · 17/05/2015 23:51

Glad you got home woolly - is your dd going to go ahead with doing exams next week? Wishing her well Flowers

My dd was revising electronics and geog today not eng lit but I think she needed to as she's got those plus drama on Tuesday. She reckons she can do the OM&M ok, less confident about Inspector Calls - it does depend quite a bit what questions come up. She plans to revise the poetry on Thursday before the other lit exam on Friday.

HSMMaCM · 18/05/2015 07:04

English lit today
Physics Wednesday
Maths Thursday
English lit and leavers assembly Friday

HSMMaCM · 18/05/2015 07:05

Good luck everyone, especially Woolly's DD.
