New thread for those of us starting the exams.

Keep calm everyone.

Is anyone else's DC doing Purple Hibiscus instead of Of Mice and Men? I don't know why DDs school has chosen it. Nowhere near as much revision 'stuff' about it. Very frustrating! I think she has found all that she possibly can.

Littleham · 16/05/2015 19:25

All doing Mice and Men in this area.

TheWoollybacksWife · 16/05/2015 20:15

Still in hospital but the good news is that the brain scans are clear. More tests tonight but expected to be discharged tomorrow. I have emailed her form tutor and the exams officer to give them the heads up.

TheWoollybacksWife · 16/05/2015 20:16

Sorry - I meant to say thanks to you all for the good wishes. This thread is keeping me saneish Grin

spudmasher · 16/05/2015 20:17

That is good news. Puts everything into perspective for me. Hope you all get a restful night.

tbtc · 16/05/2015 20:22

Woolley, that is very good news. Phew.

Me: shouldn't you be doing physics revision
Son: there isn't anything I don't know

Not said in a cocky way but very matter of fact. Let's hope so, eh.

Panic over email saying students need eng lit texts. DS has only To Kill a Mockingbird from our own bookshelf. Subsequent email stating none of his class have the texts and they will be provided.

He's spent more time in park than revising today but I have sat on my hands and kept out of it

HSMMaCM · 16/05/2015 20:26

DD was revising in the back garden today, but judging by the Missing lemon in the fridge, I think she was actually trying to lighten her hair.

What a relief Woolley. Smile

CoffeeBeanie · 16/05/2015 21:06

Woolly, good news! Hope your DD isn't too stressed about the hospital stay.

DD hasn't really revised at all today. I have decided not to worry about it. Can do sod all about it anyway.

DS has almost mastered unicycling, instead of revising for his end of year tests. At least he's been outside and got fresh air and exercise. DD is still in her pyjama I think.

HSMMaCM · 16/05/2015 21:35

I was saying to DH today, I think DD's mood has actually lightened since the exams started.

SugarPlumTree · 16/05/2015 22:09

Really good news Woolly Smile

TranquilityofSolitude · 16/05/2015 22:30

Pleased to hear things are looking better, Woolly.

Dd is definitely more cheerful now that the exams are under way. She has been revising for ever and so worried about the exams. Now that they've started and she's ticking them off she's much more positive. It's hard to imagine the end before the beginning!

Horsemad · 16/05/2015 22:34

Pleased to hear your good news Woolly.

Twirlwirlywoo · 16/05/2015 22:53

Glad to hear things are looking up Woolley!

Anyone elses child studied To Kill a Mocking Bird?

ErrolTheDragon · 16/05/2015 23:20

Woolley, glad the scan was clear but do they know what is going on? (Hope you and your dd are getting some sleep now though)

My DD is another doing oM&M. I've never read it, I asked her today if I should - she seemed to think that it is a good book but I probably wouldn't like it as the death count includes two men, lots of mice and two dogs.

Bearleigh · 17/05/2015 07:58

Twirly My DS is doing TKaMB, and The Woman in Black. He heartily dislikes the former as he thinks it's badly written and patronising, and he can make a case for it being racist. Whenever he's 'on' it, we get lots of rants about how much he dislikes it, so we'll be glad when tomorrow's over.

He was on transmit over the nuances in The Woman in Black yesterday - he far prefers that.

Ashbeeee · 17/05/2015 08:12

wooley. Huge relief, that must have be scary as hell. Sending hugs.

Re to kill a mocking bird, yes DD is doing it. She hated it at first 'boring' but now more into it once she got the connection to the black history side of things, which she finds fascinating. Watching it on Netflix has helped too. And she's nicked her v clever friends 4 a4 sides of quotes and is learning them now.

A bit nervous about the exam tomorrow as DD has been told to use more sophisticated language and is struggling with that.

I laid off nagging re revision yesterday and allowed boyf to come over as we had friends for dinner. They just spent the whole afternoon and evening lying down, wrapped around each other. Sweet. Until she let rip a huge stinky fart, driving him screaming into the garden. Really, don't know where she gets that from [shock ]

TheWoollybacksWife · 17/05/2015 08:51

We're still in hospital. DD had a lumbar puncture last night. We are waiting for ward rounds to tell us more - they sent fluid samples off for testing but the main purpose was to relieve the pressure in her brain. A lovely doctor talked to her all the way through it about TKaMB. That counts as revision in these circumstances, right Smile

Thank you all again for sticking with me.

It sounds as though your dd is being very well looked after Woolley.I do hope you are able to return home for Brew and Cake today.

QOD · 17/05/2015 09:09

Dd is doing of mice and men and a shorter play er .... forgotten? Or maybe that's the play?

Wooley this must give her some leeway
As she can't be revising like she could be!
Poor thing and you too.
Mine is 16 so would I even be allowed to stay?!

SugarPlumTree · 17/05/2015 09:13

Absolutely revision in those circumstances Woolly, glad the staff are being good at worrying time for you all. Fingers firmly crossed that she is home very soon Flowers

Mice and Men is the order of the day here.

bigTillyMint · 17/05/2015 09:38

Oh Woolly that definitely counts as revision. Got everything crossed that you get home today. Lumbar punctures are grim - I had to have one once.

Not sure what DD is up to as we are away in a hotel for a wedding!

GloriaSmud · 17/05/2015 09:45

Hope everything is OK with your DD, Woollybacks. Flowers for you both.

DD1 has a 2 hour English Literature exam tomorrow. She's been studying Blood Brothers, Of Mice and Men and Lord of the Flies. The school did an extra 4 hour revision session yesterday ~ DD1 said that there were quite a lot doing it considering it was a Saturday. The school provided snacks so DD's revision was no doubt aided by all the fig rolls and 4 doughnuts that she consumed while she was there Shock Grin

thunderbird69 · 17/05/2015 10:27

My DS is doing OMAM and An Inspector Calls. I have read OMAM before so could talk to him about the story, but I didn't pick up on all the foreshadowing etc when I read it!
IMO They have far more interesting reads that when I did my exams - Macbeth, Canterbury Tales and Silas Marner. If I understand correctly, they also get given a copy of each text in the exam? (AQA)
