Once Year 11's have finished their GCSE exams in June do they still have to attend school until the end of the school year in July? Its been a while since we were able to book a family holiday without paying through the nose to thought we'd look into going immediately after the GCSE's are over :) I have emailed the school but no response and the receptionist was unsure and going to"get someone to call me back" which hasn't happened......

Ime once they've finished the gcses they don't have to go back till Sept if they're doing sixth form. Just make sure you're not away when the prom is on if they want to go to that.

Where is he going on to? Some sixth forms and colleges have taster weeks which I think are in July.

He's staying on for sixth form at his current school. We only plan on going away for a week so would be back before the prom, school play, leavers presentations etc. Would be good for him to get away after all the exam stress too :)

As this will affect us next year, I looked at my eldest daughter's school as it has a sixth form and there is an induction week the first week in July.
My youngest is only a year behind so I may get a holiday in July in a couple of years time (depending on timetable for year 12s).

My DD didn't have to go back last year. But her friend had to go back to school to do such things as team building exercises, even though she wasn't staying at her school for Sixth Form. And I have heard of students having to go back to start the AS syllabus early, even though they might change their minds about what ASs they are studying depending on results.

Just had a letter today saying DS1 will have to go for 2 6th form induction days at the end of June.

Am surprised school are so unsure about what the Yr 11s are doing! Surely they should have a system in place for each year? Very unhelpful. Generally, I believe GCSE students don't go back to school once they have finished exams but as others said there are a lot of happenings afterwards. Apart from the ones already mentioned, does your school organise Work Experience? That would usually come in end of June or beginning of July for Yr 11s.

DS1 did work experience in the February of Year 10. Nothing in Year 11.
