Are there guidelines for how many hours of exams can be taken in a day (GCSEs)

just got my DD's exam timetable. I knew she had 3 at same time on one day. School have ' compromised' and have given her 15mins between exam 1&2 and half an hour between 2&3. Does this sound right?

How long are the exams ? If an hour each, that sounds ok. If 2 hrs or more if expect a longer gap. She would have to be under supervision in exclusion between exams, but can take morning ones in afternoon if there's a clash. I think 9hrs is the max amount of time I've seen in one day.

I
She is not bothered about doing 3 longish exams, but I don't think 15 mins sounds long as that includes fetching in papers and giving new subject papers out

I think it's 5.5 hrs for GCSE. I'll see if I can find the link.

OP - I would expect longer breaks. Just because they are all timetabled for the same time shouldn't mean no breaks, she just needs to be kept in isolation.

eg two 2 hours and a 1 hour could be done:

9-11 12-2 3-4 (or 9-11, 11:45-13:45, 2:30-3:30)

It will be tough whatever though. How long are the exams?

I appreciate that this is for AS level rather than GCSE, but my DS 3 exam day has been scheduled:
9:00 1 hr15 mins
11:00 1 hr 30 mins
1:30 2 hrs
So he has a 45 min gap and then a 1 hour gap.

In your DD case are two or more of the three in the same subject? Last year several of DS exams appeared to clash but actually biology 2 was designed to follow 15 mins after biology 1 etc.but on the first timetable were scheduled at the same time.

No, all different subjects. Have spoken to school. Initially the lady was a bit suck it up attitude. Then when she realised we were not going away, we were referred to year Head.
Turns out that this affects 6 students, they will be kept separate and allowed an extra 15 mins between each exam.

It used to be that a break was required every three and a half hours, but it depends on the age. I think at 16+ it is one break every 4 hours 15 mins.
