Need to move for good schools in Hampshire/Surrey

We currently live in farnborough and have a son, who has been assigned a 'good' infant school, which was our third choice. We always knew that we would need to move for good primary and high schools, but i think we really need to start looking at potential areas.

Ideally we want to stay in hampshire/surrey, but are open to susuggestions.

  1. I've had a look at Gordon's school in West End, which is supposed to be excellent. Is the military advantage just for the boarders or also for the day boarders?

  2. We've looked at Winchester, seems to be a good area for high schools. Can anyone recommend a particular high school.

  3. Any other areas in Hampshire/Surrey worth considering?

thank you in advance

A frazzled mother!

Please don't move for a secondary school if your child is only in infants right now. Schools can and will change enormously over the six or seven years till you're at that stage.

If you are talking about junior schools for when he is 7 then around Surrey I know Waverly Abbey and South Farnham are very highly regarded.
In guildford there is Holy Trinity Pewley Down, Boxgrove and Queen Eleanors but expensive catchments.
Busbridge Junior in Godalming is well thought of.
You need to live on the door step to get into Gordons.

We're in a difficult situation titchy, as our catchment primary is pretty awful. So we dont have a lot of choice.

Thank you pelicandaisy, are the high schools also good around that area?

I can recommend Alton in Hampshire, all the schools are all good, including both secondaries - Amery Hill and Eggars. There are two junior schools as well. I know we all felt very lucky going round the schools that they were all so good!

Winchester, Alton, Romsey, Liphook, Yateley and Petersfield are towns whose state secondary schools have been consistently good for many many years and due to the "parental choice" effect that is unlikely to change any time soon

Yep in Guildford you've got George Abbott (big but very efficient), county (smaller, musical, very similar results to Gabbot), St Peter's (catholic and very good)
Farnham - Weydon I believe is good
Godalming - Rodborough
Haslemere - Woolmer Hill

You could go into Kent for grammars if that is your thing.
