My dd is interested in taking this subject at AS / A2 . It is, as you'd expect, a reflective, critical course without a practical element.

She would be studying it alongside Eng Lit, Sociology and RE.

Any thoughts?

This would leave only one Facilitating subject - English Literature, I believe. Does this matter to DD? What are University or work aspirations?

Yes, you're quite right, MMM. The problem is that she excels at it and isn't really so keen on taking any of the facilitating subjects.

She is hoping to go to university - something English-y - but has no idea of a possible career yet.

I just had a look at the entry requirements for English Literature at Sheffield, Exeter and Bristol universities. They all require English literature or English literature and language A level either at A or A*, but are not stating any other specific subjects as being required. Therefore, this combination looks fine for English. However, for Law, it might be better to have History in the mix. From what you say, OP, if she does an A level she enjoys, she will do well and something Englishy will be possible.
