Can any teachers be made redundant? Does it depend on subject area, age, performance?

Thanks. I always find this time of year incredibly unsettling Confused

Do you want to give a bit more info' Fenny.

Redundancies usually require a business case and there should always be consultation.

It might be subject dependent if the subject is becoming unpopular and there are fewer pupils chosing it as an option and so too many teachers. Performance should be dealt with through capability and this should be clearly disseminated if so. Age - no, that is discrimination and the older the teacher the longer the service tends to be and the more expensive it is to make them redundant.

Do you have an Employee Assistance Programme you could contact for support? Often they offer 24/7 helplines and can arrange counselling. There should be one if you school is under the local authority and very often the academies continue to buy in some HR services.

If you don't want to put too much on here pm me if you want. x
