Does any one else have a 12 yr old who has hysterics ? and im not using this term lightly here ,full on screaming ,hyperventilating the lot or am i blessed with a particularly irrational child ? help

I would have thought that this was quite an understandable fear. I imagine if a pupil had such a strong fear they would not be forced to do the practical - the teacher should understand.
I had a year 7 pupil the other day almost fainting at the talking about various organs & the sight of a plastic model! Poor lad.

I teach secondary science. I have nvere come across a single teacher who insists on a child taking part in a dissection.

There are equal ops implications asside from anything else....eg Jewish and Mulslim students will not touch any pig organs. Vegitarian/vegan children will not touch any meat products.

As a matter of course I check with the class the lesson before who will not take part in the dissectiom, and I set up a computer simulation for them, most often in a different room. I would be astonised if the teacher insisted....I don't think that legally we can

I'm sure they don't have to do it. We are vegetarian as a family and two of my kids have passed out/ been sick at the smell of disection, and been excused these lessons.
