Hi

Holbeach, without a doubt!
Also remember that this is a grammar area, Spalding has a boys and girls grammar school ( as does Boston) and children travel from a wide area to attend.

Both are sec mods, this as a grammar area as spanieleyes says. Is your child in primary? if so, they will take the 11+ in yr 6. Grammars are single sex. I went to one but it was years ago. If yr child is in secondary I imagine they will need to be assessed re grammar schools...

Our son is currently in Yr 6 and will be taking SATS in May.

Too late for the normal round of 11+ then, although Spalding Grammar does have arrangements for those moving into the area to sit the exams later ( my son sat the tests in the December of year 7 and was given a place-this depends on vacancies though!) If you think your son has grammar potential ( and this isnt a super selective area, around 25% of children go to the grammars) then the best bet is to approach the school directly and ask them about late entry arrangements.
Having said that, Holbeach has a good reputation with children across the ability spectrum and in some cases outperforms the grammar! It is also mixed sex-whereas the grammars are single sex ( Spalding Grammar for boys, Spalding High for girls) so it might be a case of personal preference!

Thank you so much for taking the time to help!

It so daunting moving to a completely new area where we know nobody let alone the schools etc ....

I don't think he is "Grammer potential" and to be honest he is under enough pressure with the forthcoming STATS that I'm not sure we'd put him through the 11+ as well!
I have received a lot of positive feed back re the school in Holbeach so I think that we will speak to them after the Easter break.

Thanks again.

I know!! I moved across country to the area, didn't know a soul! The main difficulty is finding your way around, there are half a dozen villages with similar names and many are miles apart!! I once ended up in Gedney Drove End instead of Gedney Church End-miles away!!

clary · 07/04/2015 22:55

The villages thing is cos they are named in parishes which run in vertical lines - hence Moulton, Moulton Seas End and Moulton Chapel run in a line as do Gedney, Gedney Dyke and Gedney Drove End... but Moulton is the next village to Holbeach actually! Look on a map. I promise it makes sort of sense!

I am such a flatlander. Good luck in the Fens OP :)
