BYOD- Tablet or Chromebook?

Just had the info pack through the door, and one of the many pieces of paper is about Bring your own device- and ds is expected to have one for September!

In many ways this is fab news, as ds has AS and ADHD, and often produces more written homework if on a device, but for me this is a big purchase, one I'm going to struggle to find the money for, so I need to get it as right as possible.

School say minimum specs model is 7" Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 or direct equivalent. They also say battery life is the most important factor, as there will be no charging opportunities. They also recommend Chromebooks, which then adds in a whole new dimension.

So help, recommendations, what to avoid, what to look for, and which type of device would be most useful to him in a school setting... I'd really appreciate it.

(already thinking android not a good idea as he'd never be off minecraft!)

I have a samsung tablet, great for accessing email, browsing the net and playing the odd game but I wouldnt have thought it was suitable for writing any work on. If you are looking for something he can also write an essay on, you need a proper keyboard.

We bought our son a Chromebook for school (year 9). Seems to have everything he needs. HP brand from John Lewis - around £200. Really long battery life and JL give all their computers a 2 year guarantee.

We have 800 Samsung Chromebooks in school and they've been pretty robust and functional pieces of kit so far- got them last summer.

Thank you Flowers I was already leaning towards a chromebook, I fear of her had Minecraft on the device that would be it!
