Anyone know anything about Cherwell catchment area in oxford?

Hi we're looking to move into the catchment area (few more years until dc1 goes to secondary). Was wondering if Marston Road nearer the petrol station was close enough to get accepted for a place? I know there's a whole area that is catchment but have heard lots don't get places as they're further out inside the catchment.

Any help appreciated please. Obviously north oxford is a bit out of our league in terms of house buying.

We're out of the catchment area and DS goes to a different school -- but a couple of his friends nearby (and well out of catchment) go to Cherwell. They were turned down first time but got places on appeal/first reshuffle.

So I don't think it can be as difficult to get into as all that, and it's by no means the only good school in Oxford. So I wouldn't worry too much.

It will depend on the year group in question - how many apply. For the current y8 cohort, I know a family further away than the petrol station that were offered a place. You are right to be v v careful about catchment area for Cherwell.
Somewhere, deep in the council web site you can find the distance the last successful applicant lived from the school.

Wolvercote area has priority, so have you looked there?

I've been looking around wolvercote but there doesn't seem to be anything bigger than 2 bedrooms and no scope to extend.

Also looking around cutteslowe but again, way too expensive for something mid terraced.

I did find that PDF about the distance of the last successful applicant and it was about 2.3 miles. I've worked out marston road is about 1.3 miles. There are Still houses nearer to marston ferry road in old marston.

It should be a fairly safe bet - I've heard that this year is particularly tricky, but that location would have been ok even so. Depends on the year you apply obviously.

Hi Cutteslowe school pupils also have priority on Cherwell places (part of the same Academy trust). Depending on your child's age there are some places available in some of the years and then as long as you are living in catchment you would have a great chance at securing a Cherwell place.
