DS1 is having trouble at college. He is in his second year in college studying a City and Guilds in Furniture Making. There are only two student at his level but last September there was an intake of 17 students in the Level 1 (7 more than the preferred limit). As the two levels share a workshop and teachers, DS and his friend are getting virtually no tuition and not that much supervision. We have raised this twice with the tutor at parents' evening and promises are made and not fulfilled.
DS is getting very demoralised. Yesterday he made a big mistake with his latest project and there is no-one around to advise him the best way to fix it. His last report, two weeks ago, was quite negative and when H saw his tutor afterwards he was basically told that there was nothing to be done and DS was simply not working at the required level.
I'd be more inclined that it was just DS that was the problem if it wasn't for the fact that the other student is struggling in exactly the same way. I might also add that both boys acheived an overall distinction at the end of Level 1.
I have drafted a letter to laying out the issues but don't know who to send it to. Head of department? Or should I try the tutor himself again?
