LOOKING FOR A HIGH SCHOOL

We are looking for a high school for our statemented 12 year old who is struggling with his current school environment. We need to find either a mainstream high school with a very high level of pastoral care or a special school for children with mild/moderate learning difficulties. Anywhere in England (not london/mega expensive areas to live) preferably in the north of the country. Thanks everyone.

Have you thought about looking for a school with an MLD unit attached? That way your DS could be supported to partake in mainstream classes where appropriate.

Can I ask what is written on his statement with regard to needs, diagnoses etc.?

It would also be worth posting on the Special Needs board for more advice Smile

My son is also 12, a few days ago! Has ASC and is in a mainstream school with 1000+ pupils that has a lovely unit for dc with autism, should he need to access it.
The idea is that if he struggles then he has a pass to go to the other place with no questions asked and there are specially trained teachers to help and the pastoral care and support is outstanding.
We're in a big north west city.. pm me if you want any information.
Good luck:)

Thanks for the replies, our son has some learning difficulties, he is statemented and in a large high school at present which he is finding difficult to cope with, the teachers, the work and other kids.
Thanks for the advice though, will consider schools with units (not always easy to identify though) and try SEN boards as well.
