HI there

Looking for some help, we're moving to either Timperley, Hale or Altrincham this summer, I have an 8 year old who will start secondary school in a few years.
If we were to move to these areas, are we still in catchment for Lymm High, Knutsford academy? How do these schools rate? She will be joining a local prep school. She will sit the grammars, but I'm not going to be putting undue pressure on her, so if she doesn't make the mark we need back ups.

Thanks so much
Very confused

Wellington is a very well thought of school in Timperley (I know one of the teachers) and the Grammars are great too. What School year are your DCs? You've missed the application date for this Sept entry, and a lot can change in schools over a few years.
I suggest you and your DCs bait the schools to see which ones "fit" them best. It might not be the same school as each other. My two go to different schools.

Thanks your reply :-)
The wellington is/was our first back up, but trying to find the right house within a mile of school is proving a tad challenging so I thought I'd look farther afield. My daughter is in year 3, so we have some time yet.

Ashton on Mersey school is very good too, and has plenty of decent houses in catchment. I'm not sure about Alty/Hale schools, not really had any dealings with them.
The schools in Trafford are pretty good all round, but different atmospheres and teaching styles. You really need to look round to get a feel for each school.

If you want Lymm or Knutsford - erm, move to Lymm or Knutsford?

To answer your question, I think its a bit up in the air, it really depends how many people apply. I think and I might be completely wrong, that you are out of catchment for both Lymm and Knutsford in Hale, Altrincham or Timperley. Having said that, they do take children from out of catchment most years. Friends in Bowdon got their daughter into Lymm this year - I think it is marginally more difficult to get Lymm than Knutsford. I think if either of those schools are likely to be your first and second choices, then you need to be closer. The difficulty then is that you're out of catchment for the Trafford grammars.

As others have said, Wellington gets better results than Knutsford even though in theory, its lost its top slice of pupils to the grammar. Its very well thought of.
