No High School place

Hi, we applied for three private high schools as the state school we've been told by the borough we will be allocated is 2 bus rides away and not right for our son. However we have not been offered a place at any of the private schools we applied to. I wondered any advice on where to go from here? Feels quite scary.

Not sure where you live, but you can apply any time for secondary schools, and will be allocated a school on the second round of offers. So it is still worth trying for a state school.

Also, try phoning some more less popular private schools to find out about late applications. How about trying to get your DS into a prep school where they go up to age 13, and they might have some availability due to some leaving at 11 for secondary.

Have you applied to Hammersmith Academy? They are sponsored by two livery companies rather than being part of a chain. It seems to be quite low profile but has good resources.

Only 120 pupils per year, opened in 2011 & ranked as good in all categories apart from behaviour which is outstanding.

You could look at the new free school, Fulham Boys

If you are certain that the private sector is best for your DC, maybe you could consider 2 years at a prep school and then go for the 13+? Some children mature a little later and the 13+ route suits them better.

There are a few options for prep schools in Ealing that I am aware of, the classes are smaller and the children get almost one-to-one support

There are schools which go to 13 but boys do leave at 11, so I imagine places become available. Those parents will be choosing schools now, so will inform schools of their departure at Easter, when there will be movement. ( e.g. Falcons boys, Chiswick, has boys who lave at 11, but goes to 13.

Not sure where in West London you are. Central or west/west so these suggestions/reflect that. Cedars/school croyden. Thames Christian college clapham. St James Ashford. Knew house knew. Hampton court house east Moseley. Or prep for 2 years . Twickenham prep Hampton. New land house twickenham. Newton prep battersea.
On march 3rd ensure you are on the waiting list of every state secondary you would consider.
