I really need some advice. My DD was been offered a place at both Latymer Upper and NHEHS. We're very lucky to have a choice but can't seem to make it.

Single sex or coed. Very different options... we were torn and did a lot of reading on coed education versus not. You could do that.

OP: we have a similar choice between LU and 2 girls schools. All else being equal (which it is not, in reality), I think my DD would benefit from a co-ed environment, especially since she is into maths and science and rather competitive (in a "girls can do it better" sort of way). I went to a girls secondary and loved it, but my DD is different and I respect that.

Other than that, I hear great things about NHEHS and would have applied there but it was too far for us. LUH may be academically better (notably in maths), NHEHS however has a reputation for having the best pastoral care. So it depends on your DD. Go to both schools again and let her decide. DD decided LU is for her and that's what we'll go for Smile

I went to a girls school and although I understand it may be the right option for some it still seems a very rarified environment to me. I remember the desperate longing for boys , the mythology of the other sex distorted as we had no reality and the intense female frienships turning into madame bovary affairs, love letters included. When I went coed in the upper sixth it was like a breath of fresh air, boys were ironically less distracting in the flesh than in the mind and my work improved.

Thank you for your replies. In the end we let our daughter decide and it was no contest for her, it was LU!

It's so good to finally decide isn't it? Congrats and best of luck
