Shouting teacher....

I was in DS's school library today, and heard a teacher shouting from three closed doors away. I couldn't hear what he was saying, but it was obviously thqt he was shouting at one particular child, or a couple- it didn't sound, somehow, like a whole class rant (not sure how I know that, now I type it, but for some reason it was obvious). The child I was working with grinned and said "oh, there's Mr X off on one again"
Now I know Mr X, he is incredibly enthusiastic and popular teacher. My ds loves him and learnt loads when he was in his class. I knew he was a bit volatile, but ds found his classes exciting and lively. So maybe the shouting is just part of his style. But surely it shouldn't be?

Oh don't be silly. I said the behavior was good- not angelic!

And if a teacher shouted like this at a child with additional needs I would really have a problem........

But you are not listening to anyone. A thirty second raised voice where you couldn't hear what was said and a comment by a child that he was off in one again - a teacher who is liked by your child. You are totally and utterly over reacting. What you need to do is volunteer to help out in some classes with challenging children for a few weeks - all subjects, different teachers. Then I think you are qualified to comment.
And I was not being silly - you have built up some uber school where you are shocked to hear a teacher raised their voice for THIRTY SECONDS and you sound as if you want him fired (he would prefer that I can assure you than some know it all governor telling him he needs support)

Hakluyt · 04/02/2015 21:07

"you sound as if you want him fired"

Excuse me? Exactly where did you
get that particular bit of bollocks?

And it was not a "raised voice"- it was a shout that could be heard three rooms away through closed doors.

Well I wasn't thinking of taking him aside and saying "Mr X, are you feeling stressed- is there anything you want to tell me?"
Of course it's not for me to resolve personally.......

You don't listen do you OP. How do you know if it was a shout or a raised voice if you could not hear what was said?
Today I "shouted" for a good minute whilst reading a story to the class - anyone outside could have reported me for shouting - to entrance my audience.
There appear to be no other issues as DC says the teacher is good and popular.
You can't let it drop.
People have said ignore and it's not your job. People have said report it but it's still not enough for you. - hence me saying you seem like you want to get him fired.
Thank goodness the governors at my school are appreciative - we often have them in our lessons doing observations ..... But then OFSTED decided our kids behaviour was outstanding - and some of us shout. Hmmm

If you read my post of 15.24 you will see that I actually had left it- but there were so many unpleasant posts I decided to respond to them. But hey, never let the facts get in the way of a good story!

In the post from 15.24 you said you were still considering what to do/not sure how to proceed.

Hakluyt · 04/02/2015 22:09

Still considering what to do about it being audible in Reception......

My word, this thread is unbelievable.

I can't believe it, a teacher shouted! Grin

I just can't believe you are as deeply involved with the school as you think you are Hakluyt if this surprises you.

And you seem mostly concerned about him being heard in Reception?! So what? And why is it any of your business anyway? This thread riles me massively.

BallroomWithNoBalls · 04/02/2015 22:25

If you spoke to the Head / a member of SLT about this, they would nod, frown, do a great sadface - then close the door and roar with laughter.

emkana · 04/02/2015 22:52

So true Ballroom

holmessweetholmes · 05/02/2015 09:44

Ballroom Grin.Yes, they certainly would! I mentioned this thread to dh, who is a deputy head (with excellent classroom management and tons of experience ). He went Confused and then said cheerfully 'Oh it's great to have a good shout sometimes!'

holmessweetholmes · 05/02/2015 09:47

And I really don't see why it would be a problem that it's audible in reception - because I think probably everyone else in the world knows that teachers shout sometimes!
