Any kindred spirits with DC at Latymer Upper interviews today? Wish we could fast forward to the 13th!

Hi.
This is my first ever post!
Yes, we were at Latymer yesterday afternoon. My DS also had an interview in the morning at Alleyns.
Something about my DS's interview at Latymer is troubling me. Maybe I'm being neurotic or over thinking the matter, I just don't know.
So, three of my DS's friends all had interviews at Latymer too. They were all asked which other schools they had applied to and which school was there favourite. My DS wasn't asked this. Why?
Do you mind me asking whether this question was put to your DC?

Pipsnow2 · 01/02/2015 17:49

Hi. My DS wasn't asked either. I expect it just depends on the teacher and what they have time to cover in the 20 minutes. He had a very serious teacher unfortunately so wasn't overly confident about it afterwards.

Thanks. I feel somewhat reassured now.
My DS is distraught-as soon as we stepped outside the school he realised he had fluffed an easy maths question.
The whole process is turning me into a neurotic monster. I have a DD currenly in year 5 so there is no break in the madness for us.
Was Latymer your last interview?
We have City next Monday.

Hello scabby1, DD was also asked at LU which school was her favourite and luckily LU is (at the moment) so she could answer truthfully. I don't think it's a fair question though, kids should not have to choose between a lie and potentially moving down the list. Other schools did not ask as far as I know.
Best of luck to your DS for both City and LU and any other school he applied to, so glad the process (if not the waiting game) is over!

biascutshirt · 04/02/2015 11:38

Mine was asked for a list of schools shed applied to (she was honest) and whether she'd accept an offer if made (She wasn't honest, said yes. Truth is we just haven't decided yet). Seriously what do they expect? An unfair question like that deserves a meaningless answer in my view.
Waiting for GDST results today. It's killin me...

Beingfrank · 04/02/2015 16:22

My boy wasn't asked this question at LU - in fact it was the only school that didn't ask! Nor was his friend asked. I wouldn't read too much into it.

scabby1 · 13/02/2015 15:24

Hello everyone,
Looks like I was being neurotic and was reading too much into things.
DS has an offer at LU. We are thrilled and delighted. Now just waiting to hear from City ( not due till next Friday).
Biascutshirt, I see from another thread that you too have an offer from LU. Congratulations to your Dd.
Pipsnow, beingfrank & intrepidfox, best of luck for LU and any/all the other schools you are interested in.

Hi all. It's still sinking in as DS got offered a place at LU. After all my worry after his interview - it shows that you just never know! And to really stir things up he has been offered a scholarship at Kingston Grammar. We have a huge dilemma now, one we never thought we'd have. A lovely problem to have though and so aware that not everyone has offers yet. When is all sinks in we'll have to ask for lots of advice!

Hi scabby and All, thank you for your good luck messages - it worked! DD got music scholarship offer at LU (no fee reduction, but 2 instruments tuition) and is THRILLED as LU was her favourite! She also got CLSG (great but too far) and G+L (my fav, but no scholarship. So unless anyone has considerations not mentioned before, I think LU will stay on top! Does anyone know if they offer a "offer holder" morning or any other opportunity to re-visit and ask questions? Nothing mentioned in the letter..

scabby1 · 13/02/2015 16:51

Hi Fox,
Congratulations! There is an offer holder evening. Info re this is in a letter from the head of admissions attached to the offer letter from head. I'll be there....

theintrepidfox · 13/02/2015 17:07

Ah, thank you Scabby - I didn't get that far in reading when DD started celebrating and we had to run off to catch a plane... so the letter is sitting at home. Could dm me with the details? We're off until 23rd...

scabby1 · 13/02/2015 17:15

Hi Fox,
Letter says there is a q&a evening on Tuesday 24 February. No time given. You need to book a place if you want to attend ( 020 7993 0063).
See you there!

theintrepidfox · 13/02/2015 18:12

Thanks so much Scabby!

Hi everyone,
After much deliberation, agonising and a fair number of u-turns, we took the difficult decision of turning down Ds's offer to Latymer Upper and taking up the offer at City. Both schools are fantastic and I am sure I will have some " what if" moments. At the end of the day we decided to go with our initial gut feeling that City was the right fit for our son-we loved how ethnically and socially diverse it is, it's ethos, the inspiring location and the kind, grounded and unpretentious boys we have come across who attend there.
Dd is in year 5 and it could well be that LU is the right school for her. I'd be thrilled if it is.....A case of having my cake and eating it!
