Girl's uniform - trousers, socks or tights?

DD so far has always worn black uniform trousers but now the fashion in her year appears to be skirts (both are acceptable under the uniform policy)

What is the norm though - socks or tights? For me it's the second one especially in winter but she is not so keen

In dd's school skirts are worn with tights, opaque or woolly and black. I've not seen anyone wearing a skirt with socks tbh.

At our school its tights if you want to go on the climbing frame (or you need to wear shorts underneath your skirt)! Personally I love culottes on girls - much better for sitting cross legged in.

I think tights are warmer and smarter, DD's issue is they are awkward on PE days and, I suspect, there is a bit of a fashion for long over the knee socks (which I personally think look terrible)

dd wears tights or long socks with a skirt at this time of year. She also has culottes that she wears in the same manner.

it's the long socks she is hankering after but I am not so sure they look smart, also suspect they will end up being worn crumpled below the knee.

In secondary, they only tend to start wearing skirts as they get older though, IME - the Yr7s all wear trousers - so, teens wear tights with skirts - some opaque some not, but no socks.

The y7 girls at my dds' school mostly wear skirts, and loads of them are currently wearing socks!

confusedmumuk · 25/01/2015 17:49

What sort of socks Atia?

my dd mainly has knee high ones but also has a couple of pairs of over the knee ones

AtiaoftheJulii · 26/01/2015 20:49

Yes, knee-high and over-the-knee. No ankle socks atm Wink

I recommend over the knee woollen socks - DD looks smart and very comfy :)
