Trent College & where to live

We're hoping for out daughter to start Trent College in Sept 2015. We're relocating from overseas and have absolutely no idea where to live ... Can anyone offer suggestions?

Do you mean the one near Nottingham?

I presume you are going to be working in the area hence picking the school? You could live in Long Eaton which would put you in walking distance.

Breaston and Draycott are nice villages nearby, also Ockbrook or Borrowash slightly further away.

If you want to be more urban, Beeston is a nice bit of Nottingham with lots of interesting things going on, nice shops etc. It is suffering slightly at the mo as they are extending the tramline from Nottingham but when that work is done I think it will be a big improvement.

We actually picked the school before jobs .... My hubby will be working in London and overseas... I need to get a job!

The School has a popular coach service so you could widen your options considerably depending on how often your DH needs to go into London and if he's going via car or train.

If your husband is working in London you might want to live and school your child a lot nearer the Smoke than Long Eaton. I wouldn't want to do that commute on a daily basis.

Luckily, he's only in London twice a week. Will also be travelling to Aberdeen and overseas ....

What about the recent floods? Are some places off limits due to insurance problems?

Trent has good school buses, so you could look as wide as Castle Donnington, West Bridgford, Tollerton, Ruddington etc. Nottm High School is going co-ed in phases from Sept 2015, not sure if you know. Castle Donnington is good for the airport for flights to Aberdeen, as well as East Midlands Parkway for trains to London. A453 works will finish next May, that will revolutionise travel into Nottm itself. Happy for you to PM me with specific questions, if you like.

It's staggered co-ed at the high school so they may not accept girls which are the OP's DD's age for a few years. 6th form in September and Lovell house, I think.

Entrance assessments for girls into Lovell House in all three years are taking place now and I have seen Tweets re: sixth form interviews. It is infants and sixth form from Sept 2015 with the other years phasing after that.

Long eaton isn't very nice! I'm from castle donington (although live in Bristol now) and it's useful for Aberdeen and London as you have East Midlands airport (my dad flies to Aberdeen weekly from there) on the doorstep and East Midlands parkway for quick trains to London. Otherwise Beeston is quite nice, and ockbrook, but they don't have very easy transport links. Kegworth is also quite nice.

Ds is in year 12, baffledmum. He doesn't seem too fussed.

Long Eaton isn't good for getting to London I don't think. He'd have to go into Nottingham first and catch the train to St Pancras as it goes Nottingham, East Midlands Parkway, Leicester etc.

My son's also not troubled by the arrival of girls. i think the way school communicated it was the issue, rather than than the substantive point, which is that the school needs more pupils to continue to thrive. It's been very good educationally and they have recruited several excellent teachers from the Girls' School, who are introducing good things ahead of the girls arriving in Sept.

Apparently they are not doing it to drive up the numbers. I'm happy there's going to be girls, it may calm the hormones down a little

My ds is at Trent college, he loves it there! We live in Beeston which is very nice. I can also recommend Wollaton, West Bridgford, The Park and Ruddington.
