Unsatisfactory ofsted, how can I help my dc?

my two teenage dc attend a rubbish school than become a rubbish academy. The recent ofsted is shockingly bad, what can I do to help them reach their potential?
Why is my daughter studying the same as my son in a year below her?

Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks fluffing. I wasn't sure about who to complain to since they are now an academy???. Yes I am planning to get the gsce study guides, tutoring seems difficult to come by, I looked online and found websites that you register with and wait for a reply, still waiting.

The most obvious thing is to consider a move to another school but with two children that might not be too easy. It will also depend which year groups we are talking about. Once they get into year 9 or above we are talking GCSE subject syllabuses and changing schools can then present a good few issues in terms of different syllabuses and even getting onto the subject potentially.
Complaint when it is an academy is not very easy as they effectively are their own bosses. Given tha Ofsted have effectively already "outed " them the only possible people to complain to are the DfE, which for an Academy should be via the EFA.

Support them at home as much as you can, ask to meet with the teachers to discuss what their targets should be
use bitesize and stuff like that

and complain to the DfE, your MP, the LEA even though its an Academy and ask Ofsted when they will be back.

Can you move school? I know others may say stick around but local schools will fill up quickly so it's worth considering.

Your reply had confirmed what I thought, that as an academy they make there own rules somewhat. Thanks for letting me know who to complain to. I'm very worried that my daughter in year 10 is studying the same as my son in year 9. The school was having the students take 1 year gcse, now they have changed it to two and three for subsequent years. Her study seems all over the place. High predictions but ridiculous low marks for test papers, that she seems to do a lot of! I just don't understand what us going on.

Yes I will ask when ofsted are back, hadn't thought of that. Yes also I will be helping them at home as much as I can. Even though my son is reluctant !

I feel for you. We had the same situation but in primary. If you can afford a tutor I'd really look into it.
