Mocks this week, and the reality of AS exams in a few months is starting to hit home. I don't think it will be an easy journey, so would welcome some company.

Well done Marni's DD!

TranquilityofSolitude · 18/05/2015 13:29

That's brilliant, Marni. Well done to your DD.

AtiaoftheJulii · 18/05/2015 17:48

Oh well done MarniJr! Fabulous for her of course, and a lovely little personal statement nugget too Grin

MorvahRising · 18/05/2015 18:17

What a lovely start to the week Marni!

Physics here tomorrow. DS getting jittery . . . .

SecretSquirrels · 18/05/2015 18:28

Well done to Marni/DD that is a boost.
Physics tomorrow here as well. DS says he would be fine if his teachers would stop making them do mocks every day as well as actual exams. I can understand that for some DC it's necessary as they don't revise properly.Seems hard on those who do though. DS would be far better off on study leave but they don't get any in Y12.

Marni23 · 18/05/2015 19:12

Thanks all! Atia it being a good thing to put on her PS may have been the first thing to cross my mind when she opened the letter Grin

That must be very frustrating for your DS SecretSquirrels. I find it strange that they don't get study leave-surely they must all have different strengths/weaknesses and therefore have different requirements for what they need to revise?

Best of luck with Physics tomorrow and to Morvah's DS

GentlyBenevolent · 18/05/2015 19:13

I think DD1 would be much better with structured revision lessons/mocks. She doesn't think that, but I do.Sigh. I have no idea how her day went today, she went straight from school (she is going in every day even though they have study leave) to a music lesson and I have had very little email or text contact with her at all apart from the obligatory enquiries about this evening's GoT (it's been available on demand from NOW since before 7am, she knew I was watching when she left for school - she burst into the room to tell me she had heard Diana Rigg and she was outraged that I was watching it without her Grin ). She didn't do much work over the weekend, that's for sure. Sigh (again). Although she reckons she has revised so much for history already that her brain has reached supersaturation point. But then I point out that she knows GoT much better than her history stuff (which is fair enough, I'm not criticising her for that) and hasn't become supersturated with that, always happy to talk about it and think about it and re-read for the 89th time...so why not like that for history. And she has no answer. I don't think she has looked at music for a while either, on the grounds that she has all of half term...which is true, we only have one thing planned for half term...but still. There's a huge amount to learn inside out and back to front.

MrsUltracrepidarian · 18/05/2015 19:25

Physics here tomorrow as well and IMO DS is not jittery enough...
He is on study leave, and as I was off work today I did not see much sign of work being done. I am leaving it to him, just hope he is on top of it.

hellsbells99 · 18/05/2015 20:07

Secret - no study leave seems very odd. DD2 has been off over a week. She would not be happy if she had to go to classes now. Physics paper 1 here tomorrow too - she says this is going to be her worst exam. Physics paper 2 will apparently be a lot easier.

BernadetteMatthews · 18/05/2015 20:32

Well done to Marnie' s DD, how lovely for her.

Bloody economics tomorrow here. On the plus side our expectations for it are now very low! Good luck for everyone tomorrow.

BernadetteMatthews · 19/05/2015 06:10

Meant to say thank you to needsmore, that's very reassuring. DD said realistically she knows that she's not done as well as she could have and we're going to sit down on results day and plan the best way forward.

Marni23 · 19/05/2015 06:55

Best of luck to your DD today Bernadette. Really hope it goes well for her.

AtiaoftheJulii · 19/05/2015 10:59

Yes, hope your dd comes home happier today, having slain a demon or two!

MorvahRising · 19/05/2015 17:14

DS has just got back and seems pretty pleased with the physics, which is a relief after the maths last week! He said he was glad he'd revised the particle composition of the kaons (?) this morning because there was quite a long question on that.

He returned with an old computer he'd traded for something (he uses the parts for his computer repair business) and was so busy telling me all about it that it took me five minutes before I could get a word in edgeways to ask about the physics, by which stage I was virtually hopping up and down with frustration! Does it not occur to him that I've been wondering about it ALL DAY? (No text, nothing.) Honestly.

MrsUltracrepidarian · 19/05/2015 17:23

MorvahRising
You got more than I did - all DS told was that he had messed up one of the questions so won't be getting full marks.

SecretSquirrels · 19/05/2015 17:45

Physics is a funny one. They can drop a lot of marks and still get an A. DS found this disconcerting doing past papers, one was 51/80 for an A.
His verdict today was it went well but not easy.

BernadetteMatthews · 19/05/2015 18:21

Well DD is home and said the exam was ok. A few answers she wasn't happy with but overall feeling of relief here. She knows she didn't get full marks so will definitely need to resit but we were both so happy she finished it.

Maths tomorrow then all over except one more maths after half term.

Thanks again to all the lovely people on here. I was at my wits end last week and you've all been amazing Flowers

MrsUltracrepidarian · 19/05/2015 18:30

Thanks again to all the lovely people on here.
Hear hear!
As I am at work all day, I don't usually get to talk to parents of other DC doing the exams so great to hear form others on here how the DC are finding them. Did see one friend last night who told me that there was an ominshambles over one of the history papers at her DD school (my DS not doing history so don't know if similar at his school). Apparently the DC were advised not to bother revising Thermidor (?) for the French Revolution as it had not come up in umpteen years.... And it did... She said her DD told her there was an almost audible gasp in the exam room.

GentlyBenevolent · 19/05/2015 18:54

DD1 has history tomorrow. Today is her birthday - not been much fun for her, really. Ah well.

Marni23 · 19/05/2015 19:54

Bernadette great to hear that the Economics paper today went so much better than the first. Hopefully that will give your DD confidence for the remaining maths papers.

Happy birthday to your DD Gently. It was DD's last week. As you say, not much fun when it's in the middle of exams. Not great planning on our parts 17+ years ago!

History here tomorrow too, and then it's all over for DD. Hurrah!

MorvahRising · 19/05/2015 20:49

Really glad your DD had a more positive experience Bernadette.

MrsUltra hopefully all his other questions were OK!

Am v envious of everyone who's nearly finished. It seems like we've barely started - DS has maths C2 tomorrow and then another 8 exams after half term; two computing, one physics and five maths!

hellsbells99 · 19/05/2015 22:32

Spoke to DD2 earlier and physics didn't go particularly well - but she knew this would be her worst paper/exam. She has maths tomorrow and says that will be fine (fingers crossed). Then chemistry & biology later this week. DD1 will also be sitting the same biology paper as she is doing a resit.
Good luck all for tomorrow.

Needmoresleep · 19/05/2015 22:57

Physics was 'strange'. Lots of describing graphs apparently. DD does not analyse and positively tries to avoid post mortem with classmates. But she fulfilled the basic requirement of completing the paper (dyslexic so this is an achievement ) and having something to say on each one.

Two more papers this week including chemistry, then half term. Can't wait. She is not even going to try to fit some university tours in as she needs a break and a chance to prepare for the remaining four exams. It's been quite a marathon.

OP posts:
TranquilityofSolitude · 19/05/2015 22:57

DD had the second Philosophy paper today. She said the question was good - apparently the question was on a specific topic so there were more than 20 different papers for her group this morning. I am baffled! DD started at this school in September and I haven't met any other parents, so I am completely in the dark and reliant on what I read here for information.

Just one exam left now - Sociology on Thursday.

almondcakes · 19/05/2015 23:03

DS had Physics and Geology today and has Maths tomorrow morning. He thinks they are going badly and that he knows nowhere near enough for tomorrow, but went to bed at nine.

I think we may have to look at what options are available come results today, but have no idea where to start.
