I just thought I'd get us started up again!

Thanks for all the offers of help.

DS firm and insurance are both less than 2 hours away - a nice change considering DDs both went to unis a 4 hour drive away.

mumahead · 30/03/2015 19:51

dear waitingaround,

what should a soton student check out in town? Any nice places to go?

Decorhate · 31/03/2015 17:57

Dd finally heard from her last choice (rejection, not bothered) so has just firmed & insured!

AtiaoftheJulii · 31/03/2015 18:35

Woohoo :) DD has been talking about it, but now sure if she has actually done it.

If we're offering ourselves as MN surrogate aunties, I'm very well-placed for Reading, Oxford, Royal Holloway, even Surrey I guess, and would be more than happy to step into the breach in an emergency. If DD gets her grades for her first choice, she'll be very close to home. Insurance is Leeds, but I have a very good friend up there, so I'm very ok with that one!

AtiaoftheJulii · 31/03/2015 18:41

Talking of getting grades - dd heard yesterday that she has got full marks for her Eng Lit coursework - yay! That's 40% of the A2. Grade boundaries are crazy - I looked up previous ones today out of curiosity, and wish I hadn't: last year (and the two years before were roughly the same) you needed (the equivalent averaging out of) 36/40 for the coursework and 54/60 - i.e. 90% - for an A. Bloody hell - is it me or does that seem REALLY high?

She completely messed up a Maths S2 test yesterday as well, but that's not so essential for a good grade fortunately, and the timing gives her a nice gap for revision at the end of the exams!

Well Done to your DD Atia Smile

HocusUcas · 01/04/2015 03:48

Atia - fantastic.

Oh and pp

Another one here whose Ds seems to think driving test is a welcome distraction .

Decorhate

  • isn't it just nice to have decided and then just get on with it.

MrsBartlet · 01/04/2015 16:30

Well done to your dd, Atia! Those boundaries do seem high. What on earth do you need for an A*?

We are on our way home from a tour if Warwick which dd was not keen on but at least it has helped her to make the final decision. She is going to firm Cambridge and put York as her insurance place. In an ideal world she would like Durham as her insurance but the offer is the same as her Cambridge offer and she doesn't want to play that risky game!

circular · 01/04/2015 20:56

Well done Atia to your DD. so not everyone on Easter hols at same time?

Week started well for DD, studied most of Monday. Then arranged to go out yesterday morning, which turned into all day. Novelty off having recently passed driving test, and able to go further afield. Even been offering to take DD2 out, so becoming more of a distraction than the learning was lol.

NiceCardigan · 01/04/2015 21:13

DS finishes for the Easter holidays tomorrow. Atia I am very jealous that your DD has actually managed to finish some coursework. DS still has English coursework, two pieces of History coursework, his EPQ essay and a play (for a competition he's in) to finish. His teachers have helpfully given him till after Easter so that's any chance of revision out of the window Hmm

Littleham · 01/04/2015 21:49

Mine broke up for Easter holidays last Friday - each county must be different.

dd2 has nearly finished the History coursework and one has been marked.

Driving test booked - right in the middle of the exams. Why did she do that?! Not enough stress already? Hmm

hellsbells99 · 01/04/2015 23:05

Mine have broken up today and been to a school social tonight.

AmazingDisgrace · 02/04/2015 00:45

Good grief Atia those boundaries are ridiculous!

(love the username btw! From the TV series? Atia was awesome)

Fairenuff · 02/04/2015 12:58

Atia dd's English teacher said it's one of the hardest subjects to get an A in, never mind an A*. Well done to your dd getting full marks, my dd got 36/40 so just scraped an A. Still, 40% of the exam is done now, just got to hold their nerve for the rest of it.

circular my dd has her test in 19 days. Eeeeek. She's not confident at all so I secretly won't be surprised if she doesn't pass first time but would be lovely to have it over and done with.

DS has just finished for the hols, and it's his birthday today, so a few friends are going to the pub after school! Easter Smile

OP posts:
Fairenuff · 02/04/2015 17:27

Ah happy birthday to your ds mind hope he has fun at the pub Easter Smile

mumahead · 02/04/2015 17:57

Those first trips to the pub - real sense they have grown up - not your DC any more. Smile

mumahead · 02/04/2015 18:01

Mine is in a gap year and on a short holiday - 4 trip away. Just about letting go and not texting all the time!!

They'll soon be off to uni - fingers crossed- and it will take some adjusting for all of us. Easter Smile

mumahead · 02/04/2015 18:07

should read 4th trip way.

Also meant a big readjustment for all the family when one leaves the nest.

Fairenuff · 02/04/2015 18:28

We will all be here sobbing about missing our fledglings Grin
