I just thought I'd get us started up again!

I honestly think that if there's a decent chance of getting your offer on your first choice, to just go for it and not worry too much about the grades on the firm and insurance. Pick your true first and second choice, otherwise you might always be wondering what if. But perhaps I am being naive!

roisin · 26/02/2015 20:42

I agree with Atia: in some circumstances you almost have to relinquish your insurance option, because there is no logic in putting your first choice lower, just because the offer is lower.

ds1 is still waiting on an offer/rejection (St Andrews).

Littleham · 26/02/2015 20:47

True - that is another option.

I think she prefers the AAA university to the AAA one at the moment (& of course you can't have AAA as insurance).

AtiaoftheJulii · 26/02/2015 20:48

Can't you? Is that a UCAS rule? Didn't know that!

Littleham · 26/02/2015 20:50

Sorry, by 'can't' I meant there is no point. It isn't banned (I don't think so anyway).

AtiaoftheJulii · 26/02/2015 21:41

lol, I wasn't really thinking there! (Not supposed to be here, have work to do!)

Fairenuff · 27/02/2015 17:42

Dd got an A for her Spanish mock. Now she just needs to do it all again for the real thing. Gulp. It's all getting a bit tense isn't it.

lemonscilla · 27/02/2015 18:18

We're also in the what do we firm or insure?

Worried one course may be very prestigious and attract very studious or privileged students - offer is quite high - and DS may not cope with pressure.
Other choice is good uni but not russell group, good course, lovely uni atmosphere but maybe not as exciting course or in preferred location. Dream offer much lower than usual after interview success.

He is undecided - likes them both for different reasons. Just can't know where he will be happier.

polkadottyme · 01/03/2015 15:09

Ok this is rather 1st world problem but dd just come to us with some mock exams papers that have been marked they've being doing at school of lately. This is whats a bit worrying nothing to do with dd but the subject teacher she got what was written on the paper in bright red:-
60/80 62% grade C
rather confused as 60/80 is 75% and according to the OCR raw mark grade boundaries it's a grade A.
And to top it up we counted up the marks she gave in the paper she got 63/80.

This is the 3rd time this teacher has done this to dd. No one else in her class shes aware of has had this weird marking. Is this just another coincidence again or something wrong with the teacher. DD is getting a bit embarrassed to go and tell the teacher again as she says it's making the teacher look incompetent. Should just ignore it and just know in her head that she got a an A unofficially. Or should she tell this teacher again, I've told her she needs to say something and now she wishes she never told me??? Think she thinks I'm going to phone the school. Which I'm not planning to.

lemonscilla · 01/03/2015 15:40

Think she needs to tell teacher. But they get so embarrassed - students that is.

Littleham · 02/03/2015 09:57

Best for her to ask the teacher (but not in public).

circular · 02/03/2015 11:35

Agree - she should ask the teacher.

May want to bear in mind that the 75% raw mark A grade boundary may just be for that years paper, should look across a few years for variance.
aLso, 63/80, if thats the true mark is nearer 79% - so even more likely to be an A.
