I just thought I'd get us started up again!

I'm going to talk to the exams officer or head of science today to check what they think!

AtiaoftheJulii · 24/02/2015 06:34

Mindgone no, still 90% in C3 and C4 combined :-)

E.g. www.ocr.org.uk/Images/16356-a-level-a-frequently-asked-questions.pdf

Mindgone · 24/02/2015 13:20

Oh, that sounds slightly more achievable! Would that be the same for all the boards though? DS is doing either AQA or Edexcel, can't remember which! Each of his subjects is with a different exam board!

Spoke to the Exams officer today. She assured me it is 90% overall at A2, so you can make up for doing less well in one unit by acing another.

AtiaoftheJulii · 24/02/2015 22:12

Yes, same for all the boards. I've tutored OCR and AQA and Edexcel maths A level, and my girls are doing Edexcel too - all 180/200 across the two A2 core papers Smile

Mindgone · 24/02/2015 23:50

Thanks for that, DS doesn't need a star, but it would be nice! Wink

Another offer day today - Bristol this time. At least it is close and I can see dd1. Then last offer day in March.

Mocks are over and done with. There just doesn't seem to be enough time to fit it all in at the moment.

Horsemad · 25/02/2015 17:50

DS1 has mocks this week. He's just asked DH to go over some Maths because: 'I've done no revision and today's Maths exam was awful, I've probably got a U'.

I can still hear DH ranting...

I wonder at what point the Boy Wonder will take ownership of his revision and start to do some? Angry

Thanks Mumslife - the offer came before Xmas but it was the offer day today. They all look great. She feels almost guilty declining two.

Horsemad - I think my DS approached his mocks last month in the spirit of scientific enquiry - to see what he would get with no obvious revision at all. (He got A/B/C)

He now has his final offer - AAB from Sheffield, so I think some more study before June is required (especially has his first choice wants A*AB).

tapdancingmum · 26/02/2015 07:41

If anybody is going to Birmingham for the candidate day on Saturday and are travelling by Chiltern Railways can I urge you to check the timetable. Due to a landslip at Leamington Spa we would have had to go on three trains and a bus and it would have taken 3 hours. So I have decided to drive but have booked the parking already and have got it for £3.10.

hellsbells99 · 26/02/2015 08:52

Tapdancing - we went to an offer day at Birmingham at half-term. Some car parks were allocated for parking (North, North East and Pratchitts Road). As long as you pressed the yellow button when paying, the fee was only £1.

I'd like to think DS1 had done it for that reason seimum, but with him it's laziness, pure and simple. Sad

He procrastinates and cannot motivate himself to study. DH has now removed his pc in an effort to curtail his gaming.
It's a pretty drastic action, but at least we know we've tried everything to help

HocusUcas · 26/02/2015 12:19

DS has his last offer in today. So just to decide what to do Smile

Littleham · 26/02/2015 12:45

Great Hocus. Glad the long wait is over. Hope it is lower than AAA!

HocusUcas · 26/02/2015 12:53

Thank you Littleham - it is A*AA Grin - but at least he has everything in now.

Fairenuff · 26/02/2015 19:14

Dd has a problem with her first choice and insurance. She wants Southampton as a first choice and their offer is ABB. All other offers are AAB so her insurance choice will be a higher offer which makes no sense at all Confused

Mocks are nearly over, one more tomorrow then she's done. She thinks they have gone well so far.

She only has three exams to sit, all in June so plenty of time to revise and keep on top of it all. English CA draft has to be in by some time in March. After that, she will put in the final copy and just have the one paper to sit.

HocusUcas · 26/02/2015 19:54

Fairenuff, different universities and different offers, but in essence we are in exactly the same situation. So no offer lower than first choice. It sounds like your dd and my dc are in the same boat.

Littleham · 26/02/2015 20:10

My daughter has two options -
High risk - A*AA firm and AAA reserve
Lower risk - AAA firm and ABB reserve

As she really liked the ABB university, I reckon she will end up picking the lower risk option.

HocusUcas · 26/02/2015 20:27

Littleham, I knew you would know where I was coming from !

So DS 1st choice AAA
His second choice i.e. which university he would prefer is AAA
Other 2 choices are A
AA and AAA.

His other choice on UCAS he was rejected from Sad but it would have been similar at least.

So with what we have he needs to get AAA and that will get him to first choice. It sounds Litttleham that your Dd researched and planned a little better than mine Smile

AtiaoftheJulii · 26/02/2015 20:33

Littleham what about A*AA firm and ABB insurance?
