UCAS application gone!

DS (who has AS) has struggled with the application process, he hasn't been on any open days and it took me forever to get him to let me see a draft of his PS.

He texted me from school today to say that his application was complete, I asked if I could see it before it went off, 'sure' was his response but when he got home he told me it was already in. I really wanted to proof read his PS but it's too late now.

Oh well, I should be glad he's finally shown some initiative, and done something shouldn't I?

You really need to leave it up to him and school -they will have proof read his PS

They missed an error in the previous draft (an errant apostrophe) but it's done now so I realise there's no point me fussing.

I would be far more worried that you and your DS have not been on any open days. This is far more likely to lead to problems later than a possible wrongly placed apostrophe. For a child with AS, sure visits would be essential?

Yes they would have been ideal, (though I'm not sure I'd point that out to someone who had said that the application was already in ) unfortunately I spent several weeks in hospital having a brain tumour removed all over the time that Open days were on. I can't turn the clock back and change that sadly.

Interesting I've just been told on another thread not to trust the schools/college ability to proof read!? Certainly in our experience they are not good proof readers.
I personally don't see anything wrong with anyone of whatever level asking someone else to proof read something they've written.
OP I hope you've made a full recovery from your surgery I'm sure all will be fine for your DS.

I'd love to have read it through but it's done now so we'll just have to see what offers he gets.

Hi Kate, we have also had the relative trauma of getting ds1(as) to get his ucas form off though his went at the end of November.
Has only been to 1 open day but he made the decision that there was no point in going to loads for the sake of it and will go to those who make him an offer and reduce his short list that way.
The replies have come pretty quickly- 4 out of 5 have offered so far.
In terms of pp who suggest that DCs need to complete the application minimal input from parents- I'd agree for nt kids but kids with AS do need more guidance for longer. The level of support offered by the universities he has applied for reflects this to a large extent.

Just a quick thought- are you sure it's actually gone? We had to make a payment on line before the school could access it on ucas to add the reference. Opportunity for a sneaky peek

I think if you proof checked a previous draft, all will be fine :) there's unlikely to have been huge changes.
Just wait and see what offers he gets and then go on post offer open days, sometimes it's easier when you have fewer options to choose between, I think it focuses the mind.
