Will DS need a laptop when he goes to Uni ?

DS (Yr 13) intends to go to Uni next Sept (whether or not he gets the grades with the amount of work he is doing is a whole other thread )

I have no idea what to get him for Christmas and he doesn't know what he wants. I wondered about getting him a laptop so he has one for Uni - uses desktop or tablet at home. DH says he doesn't think he will need one as when they went on Uni Open Days there were computers everywhere. I saod that I thought DS would still need one to do work in his room.

So any of you who have DC at Uni, do they use a laptop - or is this now yeaterdays technology?

I've got a Canon BJ30 in my loft : would love to be able to hack it to work with modern software.

The one thing I would say is, student discount can get you a better lappy for the same money. Or the same lappy for less money. And it doesn't usually apply to kids still at school. Annoyingly.
