Does anyone know how many children sit the 11+ at Caterham and how many places there are? Is it 50:50 boys and girls? DD about to sit exam and it helps to know what we are in for.....

Numbers have been increasing but not ridiculously so. Just over 200 external candidates sat last year for around 50 places (Up to 40 pupils come up from the Prep School). As with all private schools they over-offer as most children sit for 2 or 3 schools, and I believe that last year the acceptance rate was quite high so they went to 5 forms rather than 4 forms, but then will add fewer at 13+. But equally I understand that there were a few siblings who didn't get an offer. They try to keep the numbers broadly even, but obviously when you send out a batch of offers you can't guarantee that an equal number of each gender will accept. I get the impression that it tends to more often be a first choice school for girls than for boys, but then the prep school can be slightly boy heavy as is the 13+ entry, so it all balances out in the end.

It was roughly 250 the year dd sat, with 85 places taken up of which just less than half were from the prep school. Current 1st year is around 100 and the norm is to take in about 30-40 at 13+, more boys than girls. 11+ intake is roughly 50:50 although current 2nd year is lighter on girls. Demand at 11+ generally seems to be increasing again.
