Recently I was touring a secondary school and there was a display board about 6ft by 4ft with LBGT issues in bold. Has anyone visited/seen similar displays in a school, is this common?

How is it inappropriate? Are you homophobic?

stargirl1701 · 14/11/2014 23:41

I hope so! It seems very appropriate in a secondary school.

18yearstooold · 14/11/2014 23:42

Not inappropriate and very relevant in a high school -what's your issue?

moonrocket · 14/11/2014 23:46

In what way inappropriate in a secondary school? Can't teenagers be L, G, B or T then?

bearleftmonkeyright · 14/11/2014 23:50

Sounds extremely appropriate to me.

PenelopePitstops · 14/11/2014 23:56

How is this not appropriate?

HowsTheSerenity · 14/11/2014 23:59

Seriously!
What kind of inappropriate display? Instructional diagrams?

Hakluyt · 15/11/2014 00:01

What sort of pictures were on it?

Iggi999 · 15/11/2014 00:02

I have such posters in my classroom.
...and?

I find it utterly appropriate. Lesbian, trans, gay, bi or straight whatever you are that's just great.

Was there gay and lesbian porn plastered all over it? If not then what exactly is inappropriate? Educating children about diversity in the world they live in?

Ericaequites · 15/11/2014 02:16

I hope this display listed resources available at the school, locally, and nationally, including books and websites. LGBT teens often feel very depressed or alone.

Tron123 · 15/11/2014 07:27

The title of the thread should have been rephrased as what I was asking about was whether this type of display was commonplace in secondary schools. The appropriateness I was referring to was this display having a high prominence around 11 and 12 year olds, the term "age appropriate" would have been more apt and I apologise for not having made that clear in the original message. Equally had I seen pictures of heterosexual couples kissing I would also be surprised. My post was not intended to cause offence but ask the question and could have been phrased better.

So what is your issue exactly?

18yearstooold · 15/11/2014 08:07

Have you met an 11/12 year old lately?

Perfectly appropriate and perfectly right it should be there, educating, dispelling myths and providing support

FrauHelgaMissMarpleandaChuckle · 15/11/2014 08:10

It's not in the least bit inappropriate. One of DDs friends came out at 13 (total non-event the kids couldn't have been less bothered - much frothing from a couple of parents though)

Arlagirl · 15/11/2014 08:12

Oh ffs.
Do you live in a different world?
