Kingsdale HALF music scholarship - what does it mean once you're there?

If anyone knows...ds got the letter awarding him a half music scholarship (so maybe he has a little bit more chance of getting in than without it...)

I've read the blurb, so can see that if he does get in it basically means he gets small group tuition rater than individual tuition.

What I don't know is whether I can up that to individual tuition by paying for it? I assumed so, but then met someone who was having difficulty getting the music lessons she wanted for her dd who got a lottery place - sent me into a spin - maybe it's a bit more inflexible there than I thought? Are all the peripatetic teachers too busy teaching the full scholarship pupils?

Any experience welcome - got to stick the pin in and fill in the form...

If you're going to pay anyway, why get stuck with the teachers at the school?

My ds has got a full-scholarship. If he gets a place he'll be continuing his main instrument lessons outside school with his current teacher.

What does your ds want tuition in? My ds's piano teacher is local and absolutely outstanding a terrifying old dragon

Thanks minifingers - good point - we'd most likely to be paying at most of the other schools on our list, so could see the half scholarship as a bonus. Then it just comes down to other merits of the schools.
Will get back about piano teacher if needed - she sounds perfect for my ds!
That was what I was worried about - can't see piano really working in a group...!

Ds only G&T in music & gets free individual trumpet & flute lessons. Show loads of enthusiasm but don't demand & Miss G will certainly do her best ( that's my personal exp )
