Alternatives to sixth form?

Would be interested in examples of what you DC have done as an alternative to A levels/sixth form. DS not keen to stay at school but I'm not sure what else is out there. Have heard of apprenticeships but know know where to look for them or what sort of careers they can lead to.

We too are investigating A level alternatives with DS. So far we are looking at BTEC courses and also DS is looking at joining the army as a junior soldier (aiming at REME).

What interests does your DS have? Are there colleges near you?

If you are in the London area there is a skills fair at the Excel in November. I went with DD1 a couple of years ago. It had quite a variety of exhibitors - some I never would have thought of as careers. I don't think it warrants a long journey but if you are quite local it might be worth popping in.

i have one son that did a professional cookery course for a year. and now is working.
second son is doing a computer studies btec equiv to a levels - and plans to get a job next year.
it totally depends on interests.

a BTECs extended diploma level 3 is equivalent to 3 'a' levels. Accepted by a lot of universities. Check out your local colleges. Attend the open evenings as well.

There is an apprentice website. www.apprenticeships.org.uk
Sorry I can't link it but if you copy and paste.
My son is doing a sport BTEC. As I have said in another post. He is like a different person since starting college. He is spending his time doing what he enjoys.

He will need an idea of what he wants to do if going down the BTEC or apprenticeship route
