Independent School Assessment

After a fair few years debating whether we would send our DD to an Independent School we have finally decided to take the plunge - but very last minute....

DD is due to sit entrance exams this week - we have not done any preparation until yesterday when I brought some Bond papers - she is scoring very high on English and Maths but very low on Verbal Reasoning (basically because she has not done any tests like this other than CATS where she scored very high on NON Verbal Reasoning (which they do not test on).

My question is; I would like to pull her out of her school for one day to just give her him to work through a help guide on Verbal Reasoning - she's answering questions correctly - just very slow because there are so many different formats of questions ....I understand that the Independent School has already asked for a reference - How do you think the school will treat my request - she will already be out of school for one morning when she takes the test on Thursday....

I think that if you ask permission they pretty much have to say no, but lots of children feel under the weather at this time of year, and I doubt anyone would bat an eyelid if your dd felt the same. Exams themselves don't seem to be a problem as there is a registration code for them.

Thank you ....I should have probably left the test until after the weekend - she has an inset day on Friday so she could have spent time doing some practice papers then ....but its all arranged now - will probably take her out for the day she's keen to go to the school - I just didn't realise that it takes a little time to get used to all the VR type questions - Doh !

If you have Amazon prime you could get the Susan Daughtey books by tomorrow - they cover techniques for specific types of questions.

Thank you - We have the GL Assessment book which is very good - DD is going to do a paper later today (7pm) and we will look to see what area's are taking too much time which seems to be the Alphabet code questions which just take time. She's scoring 90 plus in English and Maths (few silly errors) and 80 plus on Verbal Reasoning (again with a few silly errors) . There are a few places in her year so hopefully that will be enough with hopefully a strong report from her old school.
