Hampton School 10/11+ entrance exam

Considering this school for my DS but there are no past papers so can't give him any ideas on exam format.

Can anyone give any advice? is it similar to City of London/Kingston Grammar/Tiffin for example?

I found the City maths paper had a few very tough questions at the end to push those that would have finished early - possibly using those as good indicators for scholarships (after an interview). I'd warn DS about this as seeing such questions might dent his confidence when answering the others for example.

Ds took the 10+ a few years ago, was offered a 10+ place, but went elsewhere. He did the Kingston grammar the day before as practice. We found past papers online of other schools doing 10+ eg Emmanuel, COLB, KCS Wimbledon etc - basically everywhere there was a 10+ Grin.
Good thing about 10+ is that you can sell it as just a practice - not high stakes as they have another shot if they want at 11+.

It's pretty competitive. I'd say a smidge easier than KCS. Probably on par with City of London.

My son's common entrance tutor says it's highly prescriptive and in the tradition of a grammar school.

I have Dds but have friends whose ds's did (and passed) the Hampton 10+ this year. Most found the comprehension the hardest part, an unusual pre-war type text and creative writing based off that. So get your ds reading as widely as possible. Good luck.

peltata I have DDs but certainly for the girls' schools at 11 those questions at the end tend to test logic and lateral thinking as much as attainment. Some candidates may not shine in terms of accuracy on the straightforward stuff but have the intellectual skills to make a good attempt at those questions eg those with Specific Learning Difficulties. It gives them information on another dimension of ability. The final question on the Godolphin and Latymer paper example paper had a few of us parents (including Maths graduates) puzzling for a week, we got there in the end! My DD practised with those logic puzzle books, which she enjoys anyway, just to get her thinking laterally.

I have details about a 10+ and 11+ mock exam on the 4th of October in SW London. PM if you are interested.

Hello, for the 10+ Entrance Exam at Hampton School, is non-verbal reasoning tested also or is it just verbal reasoning? This is what they have at their website:

English Response & Reasoning (45 minutes)
Essay (30 minutes)
Mathematics (40 minutes)

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
