Work experience

My daughter who is just starting yr 10 is expected to find a work experience position for next year. My eldest wants to be a teacher so that was easy to accommodate, however my youngest loves music, photography and history. Does anyone have any ideas ? Or even specific places to try within derbyshire. Thanks

Is there a museum of art/film/music? Any archaeological sites? or National Trust/English Heritage type places? some councils hold photographic heritage libraries (photos and history Smile ) , could she offer to help catalogue/present/digitise/clean them?

(My niece got a placement at a library, cleaning and cataloguing antiquarian books - was just right for her....)

Work in a music shop.

Local newspaper, emphasising her interest in photography.

Museum or NT property.

Might be worth a try.

Start early and try to get her some experience in a related sector but, if she fails to be lucky, any work experience is useful. A lot of the youngsters here who did theirs in a shop or local hotel managed to secure summer and holiday work - so were quids in too! That sort of work is good experience.

My son managed to get experience with a freelance BBC sound engineer but all his letters to the larger companies either didn't reply or did with an age 18 minimum. He had almost given up hope of getting a related sector week.
