PE lessons indoors or outdoors?

What are current experiences with secondary PE - is it the norm for most lessons to be outdoors? When I was at school we did two lessons a week, one indoors and one outdoors but I have the feeling that nowadays most PE is done indoors?

Mine are out in all weathers. They do sports in rotation for about 8 weeks so some of the sports are indoors but lots are outdoors.

I think it's really important to do a mix - what sort of indoors sports do yours do?

My lot are generally one in, one out each week.

At dc's school they have 3 lessons a week. PE is indoors, games is outdoors and activities can be either indoors or outdoors depending on what your dc has chosen to do.

At ds's school, it's not a million miles away from the arrangements when I was at school. Two lessons a week: PE is a double lesson, games a triple one. PE is inside in autumn and spring terms, outside in summer. Games is always outside.

Indoor includes badminton, squash, fencing, gymnastics, skills, tennis, indoor hockey, basketball. Outdoor includes soccer, rugby, cricket, outdoor hockey, athletics, cross country, rowing for older years. No swimming as they don't have a pool.

dd has two lessons a week, one indoors and one outdoors.

Indoors typically gymnastics, dance, circuits. Outdoors hockey, athletics, football(!)

Two kits as well - one indoors and outdoors!

Gym, Basketball, Table Tennis, Badminton, Circuits

Outdoors include
Athletics, Rugby, Football, Hockey, Cricket, Cross Country

They also do Dance as a separate subject

DD's school seems to do an 8 week rotation.

Outdoors includes netball, hockey, tennis, rounders, cross country and athletics.

Indoors includes gymnastics, gym (y11, 12 and 13 only), swimming, dance. She has also done basketball and badminton.

In autumn/spring terms they have 2 single lessons indoors eg gymnastics, swimming , badminton, climbing , swimming, basketball, and one double period which is outdoor games (hockey, netball, rugby) or occasionally cross country. In the summer term everything is outside unless it is raining

BackforGood · 06/09/2014 14:26

Depends on what they are doing for their PE unit that 1/2 term - gym and dance are inside, other sports outside.

DD hates dance - says it is humiliating with the lads!
