Going into Year 8, best way to revise Common Entrance and exam technique

ds is at a prep school and will do his Common Entrance exams in May next year.
We came into the system quite late, he started this school in Year 5, coming from the state system and I have no prior experience of Common Entrance.
What are the best resources to help him revise and learn effective exam technique?
Hes a bright young man, slightly weaker in maths than english and science and his handwriting tends to go a bit 'scrawly' when trying to write quickly.
Hes not a big fan of revision and it can be a bit like pulling teeth, so any ideas to make it a bit more relaxed and fun would be good too and is also why I'd like to start sooner rather than later.
Hes got aspirations to make it to academic scholarship standard (schools hes registered for have a 55% pass mark for 'normal' CE at Level 2/3 papers if that helps) so also any ideas of helping him 'think like a scholar' (if there is such a thing!) would also help.

I wouldn't worry too much at this point. He has been at the prep school long enough to have done the CE syllabus and the school will be doing past papers ad nauseam this year. They should also be doing mocks in Dec or Jan which gives them practice in revision techniques. Does he realise that work in creates results at the other side? From my experience a good work ethic with an eye on the prize goes a long way. I presume from your comment she has not had to pre-test for senior school (if he had then you would know which school he is aiming at). You refer to schools plural- He will only be aiming at one school which marks the CE papers. Have you not decided on which school? Perhaps you need to speak to the Prep Head if there is any uncertainty at this stage.

You refer to scholarships- scholarship CE is a separate set iof papers and most prep schools will have already separated out the students they feel are capable. Don't want to rain on his parade but if he isn't in the scholarship stream he won't be going for scholarships.

Galore Park are the most often used books in schools . ime Year8 is not much but revision and practice papers. Do the school/s you are entering have their own entrance papers and scholarship tests or only select those from CE/CAS results ?
