Will year 7 need their pe kit on the first day?

Don't want to send him in without things he needs, but also don't want to overload him with too much stuff to remember either.

Surely the first day will be meetings and wandering around getting lost? His pe kit includes trainers and football boots so if he might need it, do I send in both lots of footwear?

Can you tell I'm more anxious than him???

No

He will get his timetable on his first day, planner etc

meerschweinchen · 01/09/2014 22:16

He won't need it. First day will be doing getting to know you type activities with his tutor group, learning about his timetable, finding his way round the school etc etc.
I'm sure he'll be fine! Try not to worry -
easier said than done, I know.

rurbane · 01/09/2014 22:27

Thanks, that makes sense.

I doubt it very much - it's what meers says usually!

MrsZiegler · 02/09/2014 08:49

dd did! They had tutor stuff in the morning but the last two periods were normal lessons - one of which was PE. I sent dd in with hers because I knew they'd be getting lockers, at the least I'd call & check.

I'd get him to take it. DD1 had her timetabled lessons for the last two periods of her first day. And some schools adopt a "start as you mean to go on" approach and you really don't want him ending up being sanctioned for being without kit on the first day.

And if he gets a locker, he can just leave it there.

Groovee · 02/09/2014 15:57

My ds had pe on his first day. Better to be safe than sorry.

stillstandingatthebusstop · 02/09/2014 16:07

I doubt they'll have PE first day. Maybe let DS decide if he wants to take it? Just to note though, trials for football teams etc at my dc's school are in the first week. That totally floored us first time round, DS wanted to try out for the football team but didn't know where the changing rooms were. Confused It's so they can get matches in before the dark winter evenings creep in apparently. (Still seems daft to me).

mychildrenarebarmy · 02/09/2014 19:28

The letter we had about starting day said they should take their P.E. kit "in case you have P.E. on the first day."

eatyourveg · 02/09/2014 19:54

Yes at dc's school the new Y7s always do games on the first day in the afternoon as part of the team building/bonding/getting to know one another activities

You should ring the school and ask

Purpleroxy · 02/09/2014 19:56

He could need it so I would send it.

BellaVita · 02/09/2014 20:01

Yes they could have PE on their first day.

Mine has been told he wont need it on his first day

Madmog · 03/09/2014 10:19

He's probably already started school and I hope it went well.

To answer your question, my daughter needed her the first day and those that didn't have it got a stern warning their uniform cards would be marked next time.

Ludoole · 03/09/2014 13:26

I havent been able to get ds' s pe kits yet as the only shop I can get it from says their supplier had a fire and there will be no new stock for 2-3 weeks....

steppemum · 03/09/2014 13:42

Can I hijack a bit?

ds has just started year 7. Do you leave pe kit in all the time in their lockers or do you send it in when needed? And if you leave it in lockers, how often do you wash it?

wow wigan, that is pretty unreasonable

jodee · 03/09/2014 16:42

I sent DS in with his PE kit in years 7,8,9 - didn't need it. Started Y10 today and didn't send him in with it this time around and was OK.

Wigan, DS got allocated a locker in Y7 but it was in such an out of the way place he doesn't use it. They are allowed to keep their PE kit in their tutor room somewhere. Quite unreasonable to expect them to lug it around all day, perhaps if the tutor room isn't an option just take the PE kit into school on the days it's needed.

dc had PE/games 3 times a week so it stayed at school all week slowly fermenting in their tutor rooms.
