Hey everyone! I'm moving up to year 11 in Sep and also from Hong Kong like kerelena 's daughter. I am in a situation like her bc I get good results at school and I also play the piano, swim and do ice-skating. I study in a girls school similar to Woldingham and I went in last year. I'm planning to go to an academically better school in sixth form.
I have:
A* Edexcel GCSE Mathematics Jan 2014
A* GCSE Chinese Jan 2014
good grades at my school (sort of)
grade 5 piano
grade 5 ice-skating
swimming certificates
... and some other bits of stuff

I also studied English as first language and got As and Bs in my controlled assessments. (My school offers English as Foreign Language for overseas students.)

My questions:

a. Do you think I can apply for very good schools? (I'm thinking Brighton College and Badminton school.) How much chance I can get into those schools?

b. Do you have any suggestions for what schools I should apply and have a relatively bigger chance to get into/ suitable for my situation?

thanks :)

I think you'll find that most pretty selective schools like brighton will want a good number of As at (I)GCSE and possibly A*s in subjects to be studied for A level, for entry into their 6 th form. Have you looked on their websites or contact their admissions depts for specific advise? This is the best thing to do, find out what the minimum required is.
Competition for places can be quite fierce, many bright students from abroad change schools for 6th form, like you they started in less selective schools because their English wasn't good enough but are now up to standard and wish to move to more selective and often prestigious schools. Also some UK parents will pay for 6 th form.
Good luck.
