Well, I filled up the other one, so here's a nice new one to get us through dropping subjects, Uni open days, personal statement writing, and UCAS applications Grin

Plenty of Wine and Brew and (nicely-intentioned) Biscuits available!

Not seen any any up grades from 2014 for Music. Noted one (Leeds) up from 2013 (ABB) to 2014 (AAB) IIRC.

MrsBartlet · 11/09/2014 06:33

Checked all of dd's and it is just Exeter that has gone up. That means she could have 3 places with A*AA requirement and 2 with AAA.

Oh no... my dd2 was going to put Exeter for history, but it is now A*AA / AAB. Pain in the neck.

MissMillament · 11/09/2014 09:41

DD hasn't got her predicted grades yet - I reckon they will be AAA or AAB. I think she will be okay to put choices down ranging from AAA to ABB but most of her favoured courses are looking for AAA. She might get that or even A*AA but then again.... It is so difficult to know.
She is off to Cardiff tomorrow with DH and then Nottingham on Sat - anyone else going?

circular · 11/09/2014 09:53

MrsM Been to Cardiff, still a 'maybe'.
Going to Nottingham.

My DD went to look at Cardiff and she has put it on her shortish. She really liked the uni and the City. They guarantee accommodation for firm and insurance places so would be a good insurance choice if it is not her favourite.

hellsbells99 · 11/09/2014 11:28

"Shortish"? Sorry, should be shortlist!

My Ds is going to look at Birmingham for comp science on Saturday. He is predicted a a a* but will be applying to an insurance which offers aab (Sheffield I think)

Littleham · 11/09/2014 16:31

Let me know what you think of Birmingham - we can't make it to the Open Day.

Waitingaround · 11/09/2014 16:36

Will do Smile
The course looks good- just hope the campus and city meet to his high acceptations!

My DD is Y12, so we are not at this stage. Yet!!

Can I ask if the teachers are generally helpful in suggesting improvements, or is it very much that you write what you want and they will check it for things like spelling and repetition? Just thinking that if I was a teacher, I wouldn't mind helping someone who had obviously put a lot of effort into their PS, but it would annoy me if a student submitted what was obviously a last minute attempt, and I was expected to write the whole thing!

Littleham · 11/09/2014 19:28

Personal statement is now done and I have just been made to read it for the 60 billionth time. She is driving me and probably the teachers CRAZY!!

In dc's school it goes to two people - the personal tutor and the Head of Year before it goes off. It depends on the teacher how much it is looked at, but the earlier your dc does it, the more likely that someone will help.

DD's has been looked at by her tutor and head of sixth form and is nearly ready now. There have been drafts. Many drafts. I think it is pretty much done now. She has had a bit of trouble writing it because she has been changing her mind about what courses she wants to do and then tries to tailor the statement to fit. I think it will be fine now - she is pretty much set on joint honours English and German.
She and DH headed off to Cardiff at 5.30 this morning.

Morning all. Looking for some advice here so hope you can help. DD is having a wobble over what she wants to study. At the moment doing maths, biology and chemistry at A2 and she did physics at AS. She hasn't got her predicted grades yet, but probably AAA (maybe A*AB or AAB). Are there any good websites that show expected salaries, types of career and employment rates by degree subject? I know the individual uni sites contain some of the info, but I was wondering whether there was more generic sites that contained all the info in summary form. Thanks.
