Well, I filled up the other one, so here's a nice new one to get us through dropping subjects, Uni open days, personal statement writing, and UCAS applications Grin

Plenty of Wine and Brew and (nicely-intentioned) Biscuits available!

They seem to look at predictions more than AS results Horsemad. What are his predicted grades?

My dd2 is still mulling over her final list, but York is a definite.

She is being predicted three A's. She is just working out the back up options now.

We are off to Bath too. Friends are going to Bristol and others to Leeds.
DD has decided she is not going to put an insurance choice down - oh dear. She is expecting her predicted grades to be AAB or possibly AAA (maybe an A* in maths) and all the courses she is putting down want AAB (1 may possibly be AAA). Because she will have to go through interviews, she wants to give herself the best chance of getting an offer at a university she really wants to go to. Her backup plans are a) clearing or b) gap year with retakes.
She says she will just work as hard as possible all year but has gone into town after school today

Littleham · 10/09/2014 16:54

Tell her to put an Insurance choice down (even if it is the same offer grade!!!)

For my dd1 last year, while everyone else was going through stress, she just had to sit back and wait for the Insurance to confirm. She also got accommodation ahead of the clearing candidates.

webwiz · 10/09/2014 16:59

I think its a minefield trying to get a spread of offers - when DD2 applied several universities upped their typical offer from the previous year and one went down so her best laid plans fell apart.

I was just looking at Exeter's website and their typical offer for English for 2015 entry is A*AA-AAB whereas for 2014 it was AAB-ABB so a bit of a jump. The other websites that I've looked at are still showing the 2014 offers so its just a guess that they will stay the same.

To the people going to Bath - DD2 loves it there! She has just finished a work placement year and so goes back for her 4th year in a few weeks.

MrsBartlet · 10/09/2014 18:06

Thanks for pointing that out about Exeter, webwiz. I thought their typical offer was AAA and that was one off dd's lower ones. I don't think any of the ones she will be applying to offer less than AAA. I think I will go grey by next summer!

Why does it give a link to an insurance company whenever someone mentions 1insuranc3 choic3? Has mn been secretly invaded?

hellsbells99 have a feeling my DD will be doing something similar. No predictions yet, but all choices a very similar level. idea being to get the best chance of an offer at somewhere she would be wiling to go to. If she is lucky enough to get more than one offer, then possibly make the insurance the one that seems most likely to still take her if she drops a grade. Or even one that has guaranteed accommodation.
Really couldn't see her going through clearing unless it was somewhere commutable. Too risk adverse with the accommodation situation.
Her plan B would be to take a gap year, retake and/or do more music stuff.

Sorry I probably phrased my last post poorly. If DD gets 2 offers she will choose a firm and an insurance. What I meant was that she is not choosing any that will offer below her target grade. It is very hard to know what to do for the best.

Really? I was on top of all this parenting stuff until a couple of months ago when I started working full-time for the first time in over 17 years. I feel like I have completely lost the plot Confused

Fairenuff · 10/09/2014 21:44

Dd's entry requirements are the same. Maybe it depends what course you are looking at?
