Question about Secondary Education in Scotland

We are moving back to Scotland soon. Can we apply for a place at secondary school 20 miles away in a different regional authority and well out of the catchment area for our address?

I think you have to go to the school in the catchment and put in a placing request.

I'd phone the relevant council's education department. When we moved up they were very helpful.

If there are free places in the school then there shouldn't be a problem. The Local Authority will usually have guidance somewhere on their website - although finding it might be difficult. The school you want to go to and/or the catchment school will probably be good places to go to for initial advice.

I rang the school that I was wanting to put in a placing request for and they got the liaison depute head to call me back (although I was in a slightly different position as ds was still in primary school).

Yes you can apply through a placing request. However, if there is space you will be liable for all transport costs.
