Is there a hand holding thread for Y11 parents and GCSE results yet?

DD is waiting on GCSE results next Thursday.

She is bouncing around being a teen on Summer holidays (she is off in Ireland for a week with her friend's family)

I am beginning to feel a bit sick.

She is hoping to stay at school and do A-levels, but now the results are getting closer I'm a bit concerned we don't have a back up plan.

How are the rest of you doing?

hour and a half until we can go in. Like many others, I'm up, he's still in bed. Wish we could just log in and look like some of you seem to. DS needs the equivalent points of 8 c's for 6th form, but b's in his a level subjects. written down that seems even more scary.... hope I can drive without shaking too much!

puddingisgood · 21/08/2014 07:53

Another one awake whilst DS sleeps on.

Molio · 21/08/2014 08:01

Well done to the DC of Catherine and veiled.

Papers are being very gloomy about English and Maths. All DC here still asleep, or feigning sleep until I've done the dishwasher :). We go to school at 9.30. I'm thinking increasingly low and have an hour and a half to sink yet lower.

MorvahRising · 21/08/2014 08:06

Oh god! Are the papers being gloomy about maths? I daren't look. . . . .

DS still asleep! I don't think I can manage any breakfast.

Unexpected · 21/08/2014 08:12

There does seem to be doom and gloom about some subjects. Thankfully DS1 already has an A in Eng Lang so I am hanging onto that result! Roll on 10.30 - or however long it takes to get the results at school.

pigsinmud · 21/08/2014 08:13

Radio 5 live described results as being volatile. I'm starting to feel very nervous.

Snargaluff · 21/08/2014 08:17

Best of luck everyone. I'm a teacher and saw my results an hour ago, so I know a bit of what you're feeling!

PositiveAttitude · 21/08/2014 08:22

Crap results here. DD4 just did not work at all and has blown it all. I am trying to not be cross at her, I am reminding myself every few minutes that she has to live with the consequences of her attitude last year. She will now be trying to get on the college course 2 levels below what she had been offered.

This is the last time for me (5DCs) and I have had the good the bad and the indifferent with the others, but never the shock horror, OMG, WHat on earth has happened results that we have now!!!!

Oh flip.....what do I say?????? I am so furious because she asked for extra lessons for maths, we paid for these and she then had a really bad attitude and sometimes did not turn up for them, didnt do the work. Teachers all said that if she applied herself she could do it......well, she obviously did not apply herself. (Maths was an F!!!!! )

Cocolepew · 21/08/2014 08:24

2 Bs 4 As and an A* feeling very proud and relieved!

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 21/08/2014 08:27

Lucky you, Snarg! We have to go in at 10. No emails. I'm up with that sick/butterfly feeling. I'm sure it's worse than when I got my own results which my dad read out to me from England when I was in France. DS1 is still asleep. I'll wake him soon.

Good luck everyone, well done Catherine and veiled DC.

queenofthemountain · 21/08/2014 08:27

'for those sad enough to check AQA have also uploaded this years grade boundaries on their website'

All the main examining bodies uploaded their grade boundaries yesterday morning.According to DS2 's analysis or raw marks:ums (for the subjects he has done anyway)
A* looks to be exactly in the same place. Grade boundaries for an A gone up a tiny bit

littlewhitebag · 21/08/2014 08:28

I am waiting anxiously here. DD can go in and get her results from 10 but wants a long lie so plans to go in at 11! How can she sleep!

DD has done a mix of GSE's and IGCSE's and the GCSE's are from a mix of exam boards. I have no idea how this affects things.

Unexpected · 21/08/2014 08:29

Well done to those who have received their results and are happy. Hugs for your daughter PositiveAttitude - how is she feeling about the whole thing?

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 21/08/2014 08:30

X post, positive. Sad I hope your DD finds these results a wake up call and applies herself to whatever course she gets on. Who knows, it might be a turning point?

Coco, that's great. My DS2 has ASD and your DD is a great role model!

MorvahRising · 21/08/2014 08:38

Positive what a disappointment for you. As EllenJane says maybe this will give her the wake up call she needs?

Well done to Coco's DD! Brilliant!

DS has just woken up and is rather distraught as he dreamed he did really badly, and it wasn't failing everything, which I really don't think he will do, but what he described as 'realistically badly' ie several grades below what he was hoping for!

PositiveAttitude · 21/08/2014 08:39

Thanks for the encouragent and congratulations to all those with good results.

DD is moderately upset, but has a "shrugged shoulder" attitude and not taking any responsibility herself.....of course it is all the teachers faults......hmmmmm on all subjects???? I think not!! One common denominator and that is her.

We will get through today. Tomorrow this will be history and we will move forward. This has to be the worst point, surely???

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 21/08/2014 08:42

I think so, positive. Her attitude is typical teenager survival mode, though. She'll not want to show how she's really feeling. X

Hassled · 21/08/2014 08:43

I'm beyond nervous at this stage - DS2 is up at least. He should be fine - he worked hard and he's clever, but he is so ambitious; my worries are that he won't do as well as his ridiculously high expectations, and how he'll cope with that.

pigsinmud · 21/08/2014 08:46

I'm so relieved this is my laid back ds. My nerves are about him doing well enough in the subjects he wants to do for a level. In 2 years time it will be my high expectations ds and that will be worse! Good luck to everyone!
Positive - hope your dd settles down to work out what went wrong. Perhaps she's still in disappointment/denial mode at the moment.

MorvahRising · 21/08/2014 08:54

Hassled we have exactly the same scenario . . .

Leeds2 · 21/08/2014 09:00

Well done, Coco's DC - glad the wait is over for you with a great outcome!

Thinking of you Positive - I'm sure your DD knows, deep down, that she is at least partly to blame and is probably kicking herself. Now may not be the time to suggest it, but she may be able to retake maths and English whilst doing her college course if she wants to, and is prepared to put the effort in.

Elefant1 · 21/08/2014 09:01

Another one here up and nervous while DD is still in bed, she doesn't want to leave till 10.00! (sits waiting with crossed fingers)

Cocolepew · 21/08/2014 09:01

Thank you for the kind words Smile. DD passed her 11+ but I wouldn't send her to grammar school because of her anxiety, there would have been to much pressure. As it was she had a mental breakdown in first year.
Her school is a bit rough and not very academic, but very encouraging towards her.

Waiting for 6th form to phone now Hmm

Leeds2 · 21/08/2014 09:05

Can she stay at her school, Coco, or does she have to move?

Eastpoint · 21/08/2014 09:05

DD says she wants to get the envelope from school & then open it at home, traveling each way independently. So maximum anxiety for us as she might change her mind & open them at school & then go out or might not which means we'll have to fake being happy if she doesn't get what she's hoping for & is disappointed (she's another high achiever).
