PLAIN BLACK SHOES FOR YEAR 7

DS starts secondary in September.School stipulate that: plain black shoes only,no trainers,no boots,no logos,no sporting logos,no canvas footwear,no vans or converse.....am obviously keen to set son a good example and adhere to the rules, however the list of exclusions narrows the choice available right down, especially for a style conscious boy....any ideas folks?

It narrows it down to school shoes, the point is that they aren't stylish. Go to any shoe shop, they will have plenty to chose from.

Buy black shoes.
Confused

lets face it there are some awful school shoes......assuming there are some half decent ones out there, where did you get them from ?

The place is awash with school shoes during the holidays. Clarks, John Lewis, Charles Clinkard, Jones the Bootmaker, M&S, Debenhams, Tesco, Brantano.

That list is like ours - and the boys still find decent black shoes that are acceptable - for them and school.

Clarks, M&S, John Lewis, Debenhams, independents - DS and his friends wear a selection.

Some Kickers are ok too, as are some Dr Maarten shoes, and some Rockport too.

The boys don't seem as bothered by the schools shoes as they are by the brand/style of football boots and indoor trainers - that's where my nightmare starts!

"Style Conscious" boys at DSs school wear (at the moment) Kickers. Personally I think they are really ugly.

DS has some plain lace-ups, in common with most of the others.

NewtRipley · 05/08/2014 13:50

His are Ricosta "Harry" shoes.

He hasn't been arrested by the fashion police yet

My ds has just finished yr 7 and I got his plain black kicker style shoes from sports direct last year and intend to do the same this year. Luckily his feet didn't grow and they've lasted the whole year. Next are also pretty good and more stylish than what they have in clarks. I think clarks and similar specific shoe shops are ridiculous prices. I wouldn't pay £45 for my own shoes let alone a pair of simple school shoes.

GnomeDePlume · 07/08/2014 22:08

My DS wears cadet parade shoes. He is getting good wear out of them and they take a shine well. Price is good - £25

CointreauVersial · 07/08/2014 23:20

Mine know there are three options for school shoes - Clarks, Clarks or Clarks. Grin DS (about to start Y10) just has regular black lace-ups.

Clarks are the only ones which I can guarantee will withstand the abuse of daily wear.

I had a thread running abut this! Very hard to find shoes that fitted him and he liked and fitted the school rules.

In the end we went to Brantano, lots of very different styles, all black and plain and fit the rules, but different styles.

The pair we got in the end were Clarks, but don't look like it!
Kickers, Doc Martins, Ricosta, Next do lots of black shoes, Marks and Spencer for larger sizes

Ds will start year 8 in September. I've bought him Start Rite Isaac shoes for the last 3 years; there are a few online stockists. They're lace up, very traditional. He loves them; they're very comfortable and last all year.

Picturesinthefirelight · 08/08/2014 18:03

Oh I wish I could say smugly that I buy ds & dd shoes off the peg from Next/Sports Direct/Shoezone as Clarks are overpriced.

Unfortunately I usually end up with even more expensive shoes than Clarks due to ds's incredibly small barrow feet (size 13,5E age 10) & dds wide very high instep (Size 2G must be very deep age 12)

Dd goes to a school where they are very strict on styles & as a consequence all the girls wear black leather brogues or Mary Janes.

Style goes out of the window. Everyone is in the same boat.

Kickers are are the "not suitable" list here because of the red and green labels that are found on most of them.

The shops are full of school wear at the moment and we easily found a pair that met the requirements and were comfortable.
