dd starting S1 after the holidays - what uniform do I buy her?

State secondary - has a uniform but not strictly enforced. At primary she wore stretchy jersey type trousers but according to ds (starting S4) they're a complete no-no for secondary. Girls seem to wear leggings, skin tight black jeans and very short skirts. I want her to fit in (as have feeling she's going to find it difficult) but also don't want her in too tight trousers or really short skirts! (school say leggings / jeans not allowed but everyone wears them). What do your 11-12 years old dds wear?

My DD (12) state school - uniform not enforced - wears black skater style skirts and black skinny trousers - only wears leggings for PE (never shorts - apparently you get teased if you wear shorts for PE). Doesn't like short pencil-type skirts as you can't run in them and she's always late. We're in the north so wears black tights most of the time so short skirt doesn't look so bad. Wears black Doc Marten boots all year (expensive but her feet grow slowly and they last for ever plus she can wear outside school). I like BHS and M&S (last longer) but she prefers New Look.

Doc Marten boots - might be an idea with dd. Converse style shoes seem popular but dd needs more support in shoes. Thought about brogue style as to me seemed reasonably fashionable - but ds says not!!
I think they do wear shorts for PE. I'll look at BHS - M & S seemed out of stock for a lot of things in her size.

Asked DD about shoes and she said "brogues - social death" although admits that she actually likes them. Seems like Converse and ballet flats are the most popular. DDs friend who wears ballet flats goes through 4 pairs a year.

No way could dd wear ballet flats - she wouldn't be able to keep them on. Converse she can keep on but they are so flat they don't give any support.

A friend mentioned that she'd used supportive insoles inside Converses while she was sightseeing - maybe that would work for your dd?
