GCSE Dilema

My daughter is at the end of year 9 and put in her GCSE Options quite some time ago. Unfortunately although she received all of her choices, she realised that she would rather have taken History (fabulous end of year exam results) instead of Drama and despite talking to the History teacher and the Deputy Head, they will not allow her to change and she really doesn't want to take Drama at all. What else can I do for her? What is the point of taking a subject you don't have your heart in any more? How can I help her through this? It's only a small problem to me but to her it's a very big issue. Thanks in advance for your advice.

I imagine they won't let her change because the history class is full. Perhaps send an email to the teacher/head saying that your DD has developed a real passion for history and really wants to do it and could they consider taking one more in the class or putting her in the class if someone drops out.

At DD2's school they went out of their way to try and get the kids to do the courses they wanted and made last minute changes so it makes me think that there is a good reason why they can't do it. Ironically my daughter wanted to do drama instead of history, though she is happy with it now.

Try to get a personal mtg with whoever is concerned; it's in their interest to make her happy.

It is probably because the switch would create a timetable clash. Ask if there is any other subject she could do in place of Drama which will fit the timetable.

Thanks for advice. I'll give it another go next week. Much appreciated.

The only reason DD's school wouldn't let a student change is if the two subjects aren't in the same block of choices, so it doesn't work for the timetable.

I would ask for a personal meeting, and ask both if there are any other subjects (ie other than history) that she could do instead of drama, and if she could do history from another block (which would mean that she would be doing drama and history, but not one of her other choices).
