Sherborne School

Just wondering if anyone has experience of Sherborne School. I am particularly interested to know about its pastoral care and activities.

Is it genuinely full boarding or are the boys going home for the weekend?

Also I see that rugby is the main sport of the school and this would not suit DS. Would this be a problem or is there plenty of other sports/activities that would suit the non sporty boy?

Does it have a good art department?

Thank you. Any info appreciated.

Dolores

No first hand experience, but my nephew went there and liked it.

Also friends' kids go there, and it is supposed to have good pastoral care.

A friend sent her DS there he felt the teaching was good but they didn't really do what they said they would do (SEN likely problems settling etc) so they removed him after a year. They felt the pastoral care was ok no complaints but not outstanding.
If rugby is the main sport then as in most boarding schools who list rugby as there main sport this is likely to mean rugby in the autumn term at least three times a week come hell or high water. If your hoping your DS can be completely excused from rugby and allowed to do another sport like tiddlywinks I think this is unlikely but I suggest you get on the phone to the admission dept and ask. Some may in special circumstances e.g. on health grounds but assuming you can't site a medical reason for your DS not doing rugby then I suspect most will say sorry but rugby is compulsory.
